Politicians are ignoring the cheapest flights costing taxpayers millions. What now? 90% of  the cheapest fares went to Qantas or Jetstar. I'm confused - whatever politicians are doing with their flights it's wrong. Oh the policy is  if politicians have to travel for business they have to take the cheapest fares available however 90% of those tickets are given to Qantas and Jetstar when Virgin at times can have the equivalent flights for upto 30% cheaper hence missing out and therefore a breach of government policy.Interesting. According to Google it will be a top of  21 degrees C today with rain however channel 7 says it will be a top of 25 degrees C with showers. Yesterday they reported it was going to be 32 degrees C but it hardly reached around 29 degrees C at the most which was a whopping 10 degrees difference between the previous day's top temperature of 22 degrees C and  well over the Google forecasted temperature. So what's going on with the usually more accurate weather forecasts on channel 7's news reports?

Tuesday 5th November 2024

Today I really need to venture out after doing nothing yesterday.

It's Melbourne Cup Day. The Race That Stops The Nation

Before venturing out I paid more bills in advance - Telstra a few months in advance post paid and prepaid just basic 14 day expiry only. Telstra has the first prepaid plans but I did not want to have to pay up front or set up a direct debit hence increasing another data breach on my accounts - i discovered a data breach just last Friday where I saw a TransportNSW transaction appear on my bank statement when I had not left home all day. My debit card was being used to tap on and off public transport somewhere. The transaction was suppose to be in dispute and my card blocked with a new card to be issued but no word from the bank since. This is why I was in a hurry to get to the bank before it closed at 4 pm today . Did not happen as the hair dressor was too slow cutting my hair. The transaction was charged whereas it was pending previously . I also transferred my funds out of the affected account to my other account straight after the data breach to prevent further fraudulent transactions on that account.

Today I ventured out to make a better on the Melbourne Cup at Chatswood TAB. zonce a year the only thing I know about gambling is to fill out a win place form .No idea what quinella or triffecta even is. This year I didn't research horses but do what I normally do 3 favourites 3 random.  So I chose 6 horses and put 50 cent on each horse for both a win and place. The numbers I chose were 1 2 4 8 9 & 14.

I picked 4 because it was my birthday but the most unlucky number. I picked 8 because I do this every year in memory of my late mother whose favourite number is 8 and it is a lucky number and I picked one other random horse I think 14 for no reason at all but it was a Cummings horse and it just missed out on a win place finishing 4th. I picked the favourites 1 2 & 9 but none of those won. Never pick favourites . The winners ended up being 1st place #11 Knights Choice, #4  Warp Speed & 3rd place # 12 Okita Soushi with 4th place # 14 Zardozi.

After paying my rent at the bank, it was getting a haircut at Just Cutd ( not keen on getting my hair cut there again - at least not at the Chatswood Westfield one) , there were just 2 hair dressers there and they were so slow. I need to go to the bank again but by the time they finished it was almost 4 pm and the Nelbourne Cup was over. I was waiting too long and said that I would come back ' after I check to see how much there hair dressers were charging and whether I had to wait.

So I was trying to find out which horses won as well since I missed the race. Did I win anything? Unsure but checked online after my haircut.

Next it was grocery shopping at Cokes Aldi and finally Woolworths. Here I treated myself to a garage chicken rice & veg bowl. probably one of the more healthy choices of hot meals prepared by the Woolworths Metro sushi bar ( unavailable at all Woolworths) .

After posting my letter to problem causing HCF for my income protection policy ( don't get income protection with HCF unless you need to , I had it for decades and you can't suspend it when unemployed so continued it at the lowest amount and it is a tax deduction )

Before returning to the TAB to find out if I had won anything Yep a $12 total cash bet did win me enough to break even but close enough with my #4 unlucky horse the only wining horse I picked returing me a $9.40 in winnings.

Such is the luck or lack of it at the Melbourne Cup. It's over for another year but tomorrow all eyes are on the US presidential elections - should I place a bet on who wins in that? Politics is one areas I hate and lack knowledge in but I am quite a fan of Kamala Harris.  I think AA with his time left as PM of Aust ( we have federal elections coming up before mid 2025 as well) will get along much better then with Trump.

Another long wait during peak hours for a bus home.

News headlines today include

Protestors around Washington DC just a day before the election emerge. Meanwhile new polls show a dead heat on the last day of election campaign as current president Joe Biden who has laid lowed and distanced himself from the election campaign lands in Washington DC today. Meanwhile old footage has surfaced where AA is scared of Donald Trump. Is AA scared of Trump and if Trump wins the US elections will AA be able to work with Trump? The US prepared for the threat of violence after the elections. Buildings board med up, national security on standby, polling place workers trained in combat, key leaders hidden in safety locations etc. It is unpredictable how what when why where the violence will happen and it's extent or level.

General admission to Flemmington's Melbourne Cup today has sold out with a crowd of 90 000 to attend  There was a late scratching to the Cup and there will be a few celebrities at the Bird Cage including Nikki Hilton ( Paris Hilton's sister) and Bob Geldof ( live Aid) who is in town. I wonder if the cast of the Wicked the movie musical will pay a visit to the Melbourne Cup now that their red carpet attendance at the Sydney premiere is over. Did you know that there is a growing number of female jockies racing in the Melbourne Cup with 4 female jockeys participating in the race this year out of a field of 23 ( including the 1 scatching)? All thanks to retired female jockey Michelle Payne who was the first female jockey to win a Melbourne Cup.

The $3 million Big Dance is also on at Randwick Racecourse in Sydney today - Do people really care after The Everest and Golden Eagle which are up there with the Melbourne Cup? Why on earth did they name it The Big Dance?

Airlines are urged to scrape upgrades to politicians altogether as some politicians return their Qantas and Virgin lounge memberships.

Another shooting in Frankston East outside of Melbourne Victoria

Where will all the focus be this afternoon? At the Melbourne Cup actual race at 3 pm or with the RBA meeting at 2.30 pm and making an announcement of whether they will hold or cut (even the extremely low possibility of rising)  current interest rates at 3.30 pm. Wherever the focus is this afternoon there will definitely be winners and lovers! Whenever there is money is involved, it's always a gamble.

Another 2 cars set on fire SW of Sydney.

A 100 day review of how the 2032 Brisbane Oympics will be run could result in current contracts being torn up and no new venues built or upgraded if the new state and current federal government don't agree on how the funding or budget is to be allocated to be spend . Let's just hope Australia doesn't end up in another more embarrassing situation and pull out of the Olympics just like the Victorian State government canned hosting the Commonweath Games !!! No country will take Australia seriously if this happens - Australia is already the laughing stock of some countries.

AUS$ is sitting above $0.65 against the US$

Wednesday 6th November 2024

It is a top of  27 degrees C today and overcast this morning. Will it rain?

Today I had another appointment in Chatswood with Wise Employment a Centrelink obligation. While I was in Chatswood, it was great timing as I got an email from the bank to pick up a replacement card ( after I had a data breach on one of my accounts from TransportNSW - I reported it to the bank and to TransportNSW who still have not responded to my serious online complaint . It happened on 1st Nov in front of my eyes my card was being used to tap on and off when I was at home and had not ventured out so I transferred any money out of that account had my account and card blocked disputing the transaction and getting a replacement card - warning to Opal card users your data is not safe tapping on and off . I suspect it happened on one of the recharge machines at Chatswood which I always hated using as it never gave receipts and the way it is designed could have a skimmer installed undetected). I also reset passwords and pins today at the bank and updated the internet banking app.

Happy International Coffee Day!

It's the first day of October and I'm still sick with the bad lingering cough. The cough is the last thing to disappear whenever I get a cold or the flu. It can last for 2 or even 3 weeks each time. This is due to my allergies and asthma.

A mostly sunny day today with a top of 22 degrees degrees C.

Still not doing much but I may need to force myself to venture out today as I am running out of toiletries tissues ( my nose is running all the time) , juice fruit veg cleaning products etc.

Just applied online for another part time job .

Looks like another do nothing day today Just can't get rid of this cough.

The package I sent to JJ Time was received by them so I'm happy it didn't get lost as the post office staff members did not know ow what WV stood for .

Friday 4th October 2024

Wel it's school holidays and it's also Labor Day Long Weekend so I'm escaping Sydney again but only over night back Sat night late. I'm still getting over my cold and it's just a lingering cough left but my nose is still running and my eyes itchy  and watery but that's just seasonal allergies. Wearing a mask helps.

Today I caught the hills bus to Crows Best Metro this morning ( the yellow hills bus is better for catching the Metro because stops almost in front of the metro station at Crows Nest instead of all the other buses which stop across the road from the Metro which is annoying). I had the option to get off at St Leonards to catch the slow train to Central but why if you can catch the Metro train!

At Central it was a quick breakfast of  a chicken souvaki on an unbuttered unsauced brown bread with lettuce - borng but it does not need any more oil or flavour. It was then a toilet stop and a walk down to Pitt St to meet the Murray's 11 am bus to Canberra.

I arrived in Canberra about 5 minutes or so late but that was because traffic in Sydney via the airport was pretty busy being a Fri and school holidays as well as a public holiday long weekend.

First a toilet stop then it was find my way to The Village where I was staying for the night before heading to Floriade Night Fest.  I must have asked 10 locals how to get there and were wrong , it took me from 2.30 pm - 4 pm to find my way there and it was just a 15 min Max walk from Jolimont Coach Terminal where I arrived! Checking in was a hassle as you had to download the GOKI app. Last time I stayed there it was manual check in now there are signs and codes everywhere.

So I finally found my room and punched in the code - later to find out from my room mate that you can tap to get into the room and to get in the front door you need to tap there is no manual punch code

Spoke to and got to know my room mate . It was Friday night and there were only

Monday

I spent the day sorting my laundry,  paying bills and mostly catching up uploading my videos onto my YouTube channel and watching YouTube channels. There seems to be quite a few YouTubers who seem to be copying my style of minimal or no editing of videos uploaded and raw commentaries rather then edited voice over also varying their content creation to be more diverse rather then sticking to one subject.

Today something fell in the fridge and split the side drink holder container. The fridge is not mine it was a new replacement but when I got it to replace the original fridge (which was even worse when I moved in and never worked properly and was always freezing up on one side and not at on all on the other therefore I asked for a replacement black one) it started feeling up really badly again and I had to keep defrosting it and kept the temperature control down at 1 . There was always a weird chemical smell in it and when I tested the seal with a sheet of paper it failed from the beginning. The other thing very wrong with it was that one of the glass shelves that comes with the fridge is useless as it does not even fit properly in any of the shelves in the slots and keeps falling out of them hence falling down. The shelf is too narrow for the width of the slots and there is only one way it can slide in as there is a "bias" along one side of it preventing it from sliding glass into the slots the wrong way.

SXSW DAY 2

A very wet and top of 20 degrees C today. Not storms but it's constantly raining this morning.

My morning was taken up by attending the Telstra AGM. This AGM alternates between Sydney and Melbourne each year according to my research. I have not attended many Telstra AGMs in the past but occassional when I do it's usually the ones in Melbourne. This yesterday it was Sydney's turn and helt at the Hyatt Regency on Sussex Street. And I would have to agree with another Sydney resident shareholder thank goodness I decided not to attend including person this morning!!!!Registration started at 8.30 am and it was still raining constantly and the meeting went on from 9.30 am normal starting time to 12.50 pm!!!! It dragged on and on about how bad Telstra's customer service is with question after question from shareholders in regards to this ongoing issue with Telstra. No wonder shareholders need to be provided with a free lunch afterwards!!!!!!!!! I actually stayed online for the webinar to the end but fell asleep somewhere in the middle of it.  The other thing was right at the very end ( I did question it earlier but was not that concerned) was someone asked why can't shareholders vote online via ask a question? yes why can't I vote online? Doesn't this addect the outcome of all items on the agenda at the AGM if not some of them? Does my vote as an original shareholder count?

Now it's is lunch time , the rain has stopped so maybe I can go to SXSW again??? - no I have laundry to do. I have put this off for too long now.

The bins were put out last night thank goodness as they were all full.

The rain has stopped however the temperature hardly reached 18 degrees C

The rest of the day was research and uploading leftover YouTube videos

i did not end up going to SXSW today as the Telstra AGM took half of the day up and it will be 2 pm by the time I get out there.

Saturday 19th October 2024

Today I went back to day 6 of SXSW to the Commonweath Bank outdoor activation  at Tumberlong Park as I did not get a chance previously due to the thunderstorm evacuation on Monday day 1 of SXSW. Most of the other activations were starting to shut down as it is the last 2 days of SXSW. Both the Tech & Innovation ( including the Tech & Innovation Expo) and Music festivals of SXSW end today whereas Games & Screen festivals continue until tomorrow although not much is on. I also revisited the Tech & Innovation Expo but did not stay very long and then went back to the games showcase at the Great Hall at UTS Tower Building and finally onto the Alienware Arena at Fortress for some panel talks ( my first visit there ever and it's pretty cool). Another long day which I plan to repeat tomorrow although an even shorter visit with no late afternoon events to attend.

News headlines today include

The royals have touched down last night to a wet welcome in Sydney as the Opera House was lit up to welcome them at 8 pm. They did a very brief meet & greet before being whisked off to Admiralty House where they woke in this morning. Their official royal duties don't start until tomorrow as the King & Queen rest up from their rather long plane trip here. Will the King make an appearance at the Everest at Randwick today? The Everest is a sold out event therefore the King may have a problem getting into it. ( apparently he already has an invite from 2 years ago)

Meanwhile just 2 months after the Metro line opened, it is completely shut down this weekend between Tallawong and Sydenham causing commuters chaos getting to major events this weekend .The line is shutting for routine maintenance which cannot be rescheduled. So too bad if the King wants a ride on it. No problem there are rail replacement buses between Tallawong and Sydenham this weekend . it will just take you 2 - 3 times as long to get to your event or destination.

What if the King wants to go to Bondi to see the Sculpture By The Sea - it's going to rain later today according to forecasts so they better not sleep too late! Also Eastern suburbs beaches have reopened after the massive clean up of those pesky tar balls just in time and just in case the King and Queen decide to have a dip in the ocean but just be warned they still could be contaminated.

Not again a top of 26 degrees C and showers! Another added chaos for event attendees this weekend!

Day 7 and the final day of SXSW 2024 and it's a wrap for the 2nd annual SXSW held in Sydney.  I decided not to go to the final day of SXSW as I still had a lot of videos to upload and my allergies are quite bad. I am a little exhausted as well. Attending 4 out of 7 days of  SXSW  is enough. I probably didn't get my money's worth out of my $140 games wristband but at least I managed to get a few give away  prizes and freebies out of it and see the games showcase attend some panels and see the tech and innovation expo.

I thought about going out to try and get a glimpse of the King and Queen but decided not to. We still have another chance to do so on Tuesday at the Opera House. Eventhough it is just about 30 minutes away to where the King and Queen were in North Sydney, I'm not fussed if I don't go to see if I catch a glimpse of King and Queen or not. I'm not a monarchist or a republican.

News headlines today include

What the 7 Bridges Walk waa on this morning?Damn it and I didn't know it was on again. Maybe the King & Queen should have participated  maybe not just attended afterall members of the royal family have been recently affected by cancer - but the king & Queen were at church and meeting and greeting people so it was a clash of  events.

A top of 22 with showers and windy today in Sydney

The King and Queen are waking up today to their first full day of their royal tour of Australia. They did not make it to the Everest at Randwick yesterday nor were they the mystery VIP being escoted at the ICC yesterday. Their first stop is attending a church service in North Sydney's St Thomas Anglican Church at 11.30 am. The first time the public will be able to get a glimpse of the royals however visitors to the event have to get there by 11 am to go though security no entries after 11 am for the 11.30 am service will be allowed as the area will be barricaded off. A large turnup is expected. Based in the Northern suburbs I could probably make it however I'm not fussed if I get to see the king and Queen or not. If I did see them and uploaded the footage,  it would increase my viewership numbers on my YouTube channel but that not my intention.

Commonwealth Bank customers have had duplicate transactions made against their accounts causing some accounts to be overdrawn due to a technical gitch. How ironic after visiting  the CBA's outdoor activation at SXSW at Tumberlong Park teaching participants about cyber awareness and how the bank is taking measures to protect their customers from scams and banking fraud , the CBA itself has been caught up in a technical gitch - was it actually a technical gitch? or was it an actual cyber security issue? or just a mistake or possibly they are just being too secure ???

A top of 21 degrees C and with possible showers today. Not exactly the best weather to do anything but I need to do a proper shop. Very overcast this morning and most of today but rain held off. The sun did come out briefly.

Today I washed my large pile of dishes, made a soup with all of my leftover vegetables which I dismdn't have much left of, submitted my Centrelink fortnightly lightly income reporting, uploaded the last of my YouTube videos and watched and few others, sorted folded and put away all my washed clothes, took my rubbish out, updated my blog and did a few other things .

After 2 days rest , I think I am ready to venture out again. I would like to go to the Sculpture By The Sea but the weather has not been the best. I do not want to be stuck outside if it rains or even worse storms. That afternoon I was at SXSW and videoing on the balcony of the ICC was a close enough call when the lightning was so close it could have struck me if I had been leaning on the balcony rail. ( caught on my video at the very end causing it to cut off).

After the royals first day of offical royal duties starting with an hour long church service at St Thomas Anglican Church in North Sydney where the King signed a bible First Fleet Edition and where there were prayers for his health yesterday at 10.30 am folow by a meet and greet with royal fans at 11.30 pm. A long term lease is being planned to redeveloped the EQ space  into an entertainment venue which could house 20000 concert or entertainment goers. About time EQ is just a waste of space ever since the former showgrounds was relocated after a century from this Eastern Suburbs location out West to Olympic Park.  If you've ever been to EQ it is dead and retail there is almost dead public transport is not the most convenient with Light Rail being the closest form of public transport with a walk away as well as the limited half hourly if not hourly bus service that runs past EQ outside. EQ is being kept alive with Brent St, weekly markets , occassional festivals/events, some bars cafes restaurants and a few food concessions and the money making carpark.Chris Minns premier of NSW says it will bring people together and create jobs as well as making it an internationally known venue to attract stars and celebrities.

Did I hear right? The new tenancy laws have been passed?! Does that mean you can't be evicted for no reason? Does tgat mean I have a case against my land lord . They terminated our existing tenancy lease contracts increased our rents and asked us to sign a new occupancy agreement ( and not at new tenancy lease contract which means we lose our rights as tenants and become lodgers or borders instead) or vacate the premises by a certain date in November if we don't sign the new agreement.

I am arguing that they can't do that because they raised my rent by $35 a week and others rents were raised by only $5 and as much as almost double but are on the list of affordable housing agents but more importantly illegally terminated our existing tenancy lease contracts and asking us to sign a new occupancy agreement or vacate the premises by a certain date if we don't sign the new agreement claiming the studio resided in were furnished when they never were as well had an option at the beginning before moving in of whether we wanted it furnished and pay an extra rental amount for it or not and same with optional parking. At the time they terminated our tenancy lease contracts and issued a new occupancy agreement as well as increasing the rent they cited that the property was registered under a boarding house and therefore should be under an occupancy agreement not a tenant lease contract however the boarding house at the time and still is not registered under the current landlords name but still under the old landlords name - doesn't this make the new contract invalid? Which makes the rent increase on the occupancy agreement invalid as well. I still haven't signed anything yet and am still paying the old rent . The other change is my bond , the other agreement was we would get 2 weeks of our bond back when we signed the agreement. Why? 4 weeks bond is 4 weeks bond. I have so many questions about the didgey new owners - I swear if they don't get into trouble with the above situation, they will get i  trouble with ASIC and the ATO . The company was had a ACN but was reregistered then reregistered with a new ABN which they did not have before however they are not registered for GST. so if they are not in trouble with ASIC they could end up being by the ATO. Failing that they could be deported back to China if they are illegally in Australia or illegally doing business eg investing in foreign property for tax breaks or just money laundering.

Today I went to Chatswood and spent half my time at the banks and the rest of my time grocery shopping. Managed to pick up over 2 days a punnet of $0.88  mini strawberries and same price per kg brown onions as well as $2 per kg broccoli. Then there was the $2.50 or so each R2E2 mango.
