This was another one of the events held in association with the Good Food Month of October that I attended. It was held for the first time in 2 separate locations. The main location, which is the regular venue, is on the main street of Newtown (King St) across the road from Newtown Station in a tiny area. In this tiny crowded area there are between 10 and 20 stalls selling anything from cakes and macaroons to coconut drinks and juices to sausages on a roll to more gourmet street food. It was so crowded and the queues so long I decided not to purchase anything to eat for lunch at this first location. This location was an alcohol free zone with little to no seating. I walked back down King St towards the CBD in search of the illusive second location. Found but almost missed it as there were only 2 small signs on the footpath pointing to this location and once there, a banner and an overflowing council rubbish bin was my welcoming. This location was in a very small side lane leading to some type of car park backed onto a tiny reserve no larger then a patch of grass. Again limited seating and there were people sitting on the patch of grass munching away at what they had purchased. This was the licensed location and open later selling drinks from wine to cocktails to beer and ciders. Wine in a white paper cup? Humm.... I spent quite a lot of time browsing all of the 10 or so stalls and what each had to offer on their menus. The line ups were long and some stalls ran out of food before 2 pm! I settled on my 2nd choice as my first choice had sold out. Chicken kabab with a promise of lettuce tomato 2 types of pickles and a nice sauce all on a bbq pita bread - it sounded yummy but was it worth the half an hour line up? I stood there on the footpath due to the lack of seating like many others trying to eat my chicken kabab and trying hard not to drip sauce all over my outfit. Oops! There goes the sauce all down my outfit with each bite I try to contain it. All eaten in 5 minutes - paper plate into the overflowing council bin and off I walk back towards the CBD along King St. stopping along the way to shop (I spent the entire day in Newtown ( King St is a VERY long street full of cafes restaurants gelato bars quirky shops hardware store pharmacies supermarkets - you name it , it's probably there!). Tired I caught the bus home. End of another day of my adventures.
