Thursday 1st - 29th February 2024 Cancelled GPO Building Tour & Rescheduled

Thursday 1st February 2024

It's overcast & 28 degrees C today in Sydney.

Well Today I can sleep in and if not too jet lagged go to a volunteer digital mentoring session today.

However I have to try hard to get to tonight's GPO Tour that starts at 6 pm.

I decided to miss attending my first volunteer digital mentoring session this afternoon so I would not have to rush to get to the GPO tour at 6 pm in the city in time. Disappointment it was cancelled 30 minutes after it was  about to start due to a no show of the guide. As per email I confirmed that I was attending earlier when I saw it had to be confirmed, I arrived 20 minutes earlier as per email ( which allowed me to have a toilet stop after finding my way to where the concierge desk was) and I waited with everyone else and wait and waited. By 6.30 pm a staff member from concierge  announces tgat an emergency has come up with the guide and tgat she would not be able to make it in tonight to run the tour do it has been cancelled. An apology was issued and most of the  others on tbis tour left without rescheduling - The 2 Japanese and 2 American visitors were very unlikely to reschedule however I stuck around a 2 Chinese ladies wanted to know if and how tgey could reschedule as tgey could not do so online as the tours were booked out for the next few weeks and tgey could not go one another tour after this. Do the concierge staff member went away and called the manager who offered  to  reschedule us on another tour in the coming week between Tuesday & Saturday)  I originally chose Tuesday but then changed it to Saturday with the other 2 ladies as Tuesday is a volunteer digital mentoring day . Tge manager also offered us a  complimentary drink at the bar or a tea as I mentioned that I don't drink and I don't think the other 2 Chinese l Aries did either from their reaction also declining , we were then offered a cake from the bar- this was nice so the manager disappeared again yo the bar and came back with 3 mystery cardboard takeaway boxes for us. So nice of her . We were told tgat she would out us on the Saturday tour at 11.45 am and tgat we will receive a confirmation email (which I did receive later that night.) We thanked her and left. Now this is what customer service is suppose to be like. Some companies do it much better then others.

After leaving I made a nd uploaded a video on how You was a little  disappointed and apologising to my YouTube viewers for the cancellation . I had booked this tour over a month in advance and am still a lityle jet lagged but was determined to go on it . I am so glad tgat I could reschedule to go on it at such short notice ( I was already online about to rebook) .

Note : Only the 3 of us stuck around to ask question and about rescheduling to go on another tour. There others did not. If we didn't we would not have been able to rebook online for another 2 weeks or have received a complimentary drink tea or mystery cake to take away from the bar ( believe me the mystery cake was delicious & I took a photo of it as soon as I opened up the box outside the GPO curious as I knew it would not travel well and I was right it was a smashed cake by the time I arrived home to eat it!) .

After leaving the GPO building , I went straight to Samsung and preordered a new S24 Ultra black 1 Tb phone - I was there  for quite a long time as it was really busy. I was asked if tgere was a timeline tgat I needed the phone by - no, the timeline has passed and it would have been nice if the phone was available for pre-order before I left for Canada! Tgen The Samsung staff member asked me which phone I wanted to trade in - Wait what ? Trade in ? I didn't mention anything about a trade in! I'm not trading in my old current Samsung phone which is about to die and I hope it will keep working until I get this new Sasmsung! It could be a while before I actually receive it - estimated end Feb .

Mystery cake - tbis light airy white chocolate and strawberry mousse cake makes up for the chocolate mousse cake from the Century Plaza Hotel Beyond Cafe I did not get to try as it was too difficult to transfer to all the places I had to get to with the rest of the packed lunches I purchased with my food voucher credits from it.

After paying for it in full it was grocery shopping time - why is it so difficult to find items at Coles on my shopping list? And why is Coles so expensive compared to Woolworths?

Hone on the train and bus. My Opal card is down to $1.50 or Sso, My phone needs recharging again and I'm hungry and wanting to devour my muster cake.

I text a classmate and ask what I have to do to enrol in a cert 4 to continue my studies - I only got a few grunts - no information.

Sometimes I wonder how gen y z & alpha communicate these days.

Saturday 3rd February 2024

Today I am hoping to go on the GPO Heritage Tour that was rescheduled for 11.45 am today.

Paid bills today and made an i trial enrolment to study towards a cert 4 in game development full time at St Leonards campus. This course idea not free or subsidies by the government it looks like but if you are on government income support it is subsidised but I still need to pay $240 so it is not free .

Picked up some more groceries at Wool w of the Town hall on my way home from the Heritage GPO tour. Forgot my shopping bag do had to purchase one !

Home and I emptied my rubbish to the bin ( The container bin is overflowing so just as well I did not separate my rubbish as strictly as I usually do ). I can't believe thst the occupant in unit 1 is suppose to put the bins out and pull them back in yet he doesn't put all the bins out or on the right day or pull them back in. I mentioned this and even the occupant in unit 3 mentioned this. We have bern taking turns putting the bins out or bring tgem back in - it makes me quite angry when I found out he was being paid to do this  and return back to Sydney to find that the container bin is still so full overflowing in fact that I can't even put 1 bottle into it!

I do my 2 full loads of laundry as well.

Sleep early not really as I completed uploading most of the videos I had not uploaded yet - I think I missed a few still.

Catch up day tomorrow.

Tuesday 6th February 2024

Today was my first day back volunteering at HKCC as a digital mentor from 10 am - 11.30 am. There was no shortage of seniors wanting technical help but shortage of volunteers today so I am glad that I decided to make an effort to go today. The volunteer manager of the program had resigned back at the beginning of January whilst I was overseas and I did not find out until today which was lucky as she was dropping in today to say good bye to everyone eventhough she had officially finish her employment last week. They presented her with a bunch of flowers and I gave her the packet of coffee crisp eggs (all the way from Canada and had to keep in the fridge along with all the other chocolates due to the heat waves we have been having in Sydney) I had intended to give to her.

I counted the amount of videos I uploaded onto my YouTube chanbel whilst overseas and it was around 250! My phone is dying - both my Motarola and my Samsung external and internal storage is full, My Google drive is full so I can't wait to get my 1 Tb Samsung S24 Ultra! ( I predict that this phone will be dead in 6 months - a year!)

After the digital mentoring session it is a fro dry shop at the IGA at St and a walk to TAFE St Leonards to finalise my enrolment that starts tomorrow. I missed the orientation on Monday as I received the timetable too late.

I did not complete my cert 3 in ICT it looks like do I have to do something about it

Home to prepare for my first day at TAFE.

Wednesday 7th February 2024

Checked my YouTube channel and some of my views have disappeared from one of the 2 recently uploaded videos since yesterday. Can this actually happen? Does not matter.

First day of class Am I prepared? Do I know where to go? No. All I know classes start at 10 am and don't end until 7 pm tonight with only 30 minute breaks in between each class.

I show up and the entire class is guys. Wherr are the girls in this course - surely there is st least one - yes one but she is doing game programming.  And there was another and they  are doing game programming. I do meet 3 other girls later when I volunteered to swap classes to group B from group A group A was full but group B only had 4 people in it. Numbers of enrolment dropped as the government decided after a few years of subsidised fee free courses pulled it's funding so yes I had to pay for my course but it was still subsidised by the government if you are on benefits. Who is going to pay upto $12000 or more for a full time 4 month cert 4 course at TAFE? Who can afford this at the moment? TAFE is also waiting to see how many decide not to coninue after the first few weeks of commencing tgeir courses. One of the problems is t the process to change courses and apply for prior recognised learning.

I am so tired and by 7.30 pm I don't feel like dinner and there is nothing good on tv so I watch a little of Australian Idol and go to sleep. Still really throughout the night. I did not sleep well.

Sunday 18th February 2024

With absolutely no groceries left I went for my weekly shop but not after trying to do a return and earn.  I went via Chatswood but knew my chances of being able to recycle my 10 bottles in return for $1 were almost none on a Sunday afternoon. So I tried the convenience store near the bus stop at the back of Chatswood but it was closed ( back to not opening over weekends again). Then I walked all the way to the back of Westfield Chatswood and one machine was full and the other one occupied by an old man with shopping trolleys fill of plastic and glass bottles as well as cans so I knew my entire afternoon would be wasted waiting for him to finish and even a chance that the machine  he was using would fill up just before I went to use it ( this always happens to me ) .

I decide to try the 2 machines out at Mcquarie Shopping Centre but what do I discover when I decide to travel out there on the Metro? Tgere is trackwork yet again every single time I decide to go out to Macquarie Shopping Centre there is trackwork so I have to take the bus from the back of Chatswood which takes forever or use the rail replacement buses which also take longer and do not stop right at the shopping centre but around the corner but still close enough.

Not the best meal but I was hungry and running out of time to do my g grocery shop and other shopping so just purchased this honey chicken and fried rice container of food. It looked worse then it was and the rice wasn't the best but the honey chicken was ok and not dry as I thought it would be. I rate it a 7/10.

Trackwork but only on the Metro line AGAIN!

When I arrive at Macquarie Shopping Centre and go straight to the Return & Earn Machines in the corner of the parking lot,There was a long queue which only grew as I was waiting . It was not humid and looked as if it was going to rain but didn't whilst I was there and the place stank!!!!This was because people left trolleys boxes and garbage bags full of rejected bottles the machine refused to recycle and cans  that the machine refused to recycle that were unrinsed or washed  and straight out of rubbish bins around the parking lot. There were people that were just plain racist rude and nasty at the recycling machines - just disgraceful & disrespectful   people don't act like this in Chatswood.  This older woman made a comment to an old mainland Chinese woman who had just finished recycling because she left her garbage bag of rejected bottles and cans in one of several trolleys also filled with rubbish that because of people from her country doing what she did now is how we got the Corona Virus. The old woman's response as she walked away was cursing her back in Mandarin and eventhough  I don't speak read or understand Mandarin I knew exactly what she said to the other older woman. I will put it in a  simple translation which was something along the lines of " Damn you, Go to hell you old bag!"

So I waited for at least 30 minutes before it was my turn and what happens? The machine decides to have a malfunction and shuts down for upto 10 minutes before restarting again. there is no button to restart or call for help which there should be but another lady waiting her turn near the middle to end of the queue now which was still growing made a rude comment to me now for putting the bottles in and not waiting for it to restart. I hope I never have to return to this machine as people are just so rude. As soon as the machine restarted it only took me a few minutes to load my bottles into the machine and grab my 2 separate vouchers ( 2 different machines one for glass only and one for plastics & cans - the glass is always less popular to use) I was off - hardly holding up the queue whilst the old man next to me was still loading his trolleys full of plastic cans and bottles .He still had a bag of glass bottles to go.

Thank goodness that was over and done with. Was it worth coming all the way out here just for a dollar? Yes as I had to go to Big W and Coles/Woolworths to do a weekly grocery haul. Chatswood has a rather small Woolworths only and the larger Coles is too far down the other end of Chatswood to lug huge amounts of groceries back to the other side of the station. I need to find a lidded collapable wheelie cube I am now seeing amongst the young Asian population instead of the old shopping trolleys around Chatswood which are becoming passe and still used by some older Asians. More common now and I think it is an overseas trend are people purchasing from k mart those( I think they are called wagons) that fit 2 toddlers in  as well as everything else that parents push and pull everywhere to lug heavy stuff in from one end of Chatswood to the other . They look easy to manouver around but I don't  think they are as easy or fit onto public transport as prams are.

A quick bite to eat - could not decide as so much good food to eat there so just went for fried rice with honey chicken.

It was late and all the shops were closing so straight to Big W to purchase a few items none on my list as unavailable before only enough time to do a single shop at Coles with no more space in my backpack or 2 shopping bags. Home but the bus directly home was no longer running and only comes hourly throughout the weekend. However just as I was waiting a 259 shows up to  the back of Chatswood- yay it m at take longer and I need to transfer but that's ok better then waiting down the road around the corner for the Metro replacement bus.

The sound of birds around Chatswood in certain trees is deafening - I don't know what type of birds they are or what type of trees tgey like to hang around in but this particular tree right at the bus stop was full of birds. The tree looked as if it was infested with bats but they were definitely very loud birds. Was it mating time? Were they speed dating again trying to find their perfect match? Who knows.

Anyway the concert was delayed last night as the storms rolled over stadium but the concert went ahead for 3 hours, a young girl with brain cancer was chosen to meet her idol and given the signed black hat during Tay Tays 22 song and she invited her support act that was cancelled due to the storm onto the stage to sing a song with her due to her act being cancelled before quickly running off the stage at the end of her concert into the arms of her love Travis Kelce who few thousands of kms just to be at her concert. At her concert we're not just the PM AA but Katy Perry her friendly and Rita Ora.  Even public transport has got into Taylor Swift mania renaming trains as the Taylor Swift Express on the outside front destination board and with Shake it Off displayed on the inside destination boards.

3rd night of Tay Tays series of 4 concerts in Sydney and no suburb escapes Tay Tay crowds even in Chatswood . There was a queue waiting for the bus to her concert at the back of Chatswood Station however by around 4.30 pm - 5 pm it was too long. Smart these Tay Tay fans did not use the rail system to get there. I wanted to go into the city see the final festivities of Luna New Year around the city including the trail of large lanterns and the drone show at Darling Harbour but decided not to as I knew the trains would be packed. I needed groceries so stuck to Chatswood. Whilst I was shopping at Priceline a lady separate to purchase a bottle of water was enroute to the Tay Tay concert unsure still of how to get there - she was still deciding whether to take the train or the bus. It's after 6 pm she needed to make her mind up - there is probably a huge queue by now waiting for the bus - I did not suggest to her to just take the bus but did mention to her that there was a queue for it. I saw her again after my shop and when most of the shops in Westfield were now shut still wondering around - she obviously wasn't in a hurry to get out to Olympic Park in time for the start of the concert or support act - maybe she was secretly panicking about how to get out and where the bus departed from as she looked pretty panicky as she bought the bottle of water.
