Saturday 2nd March 2024

Happy Mardi Gras! The parade is on tonight. Am I going? Probably not . As I get older I am hating crowds more and more. What is the weather like - probably still very hot and humidity. Although it is overcast this morning. Will it rain today?

Track work is also on every weekend from now until after mid April on the Metroline due to extensive testing of the metroline extension from Chatswood through the CBD all the way to Tallawong and back several times a day. Hopefully they will be running past Chatswood Station today so I can catch a glimpse of one of the Metro trains running the full distance of the route.

Today I did nothing - well not exactly I have been working hard on learning how to create pixel art characters from scratch for my game design assessment # 1 that I have to submit. Since I have almost no experience creating 2D  sprites, it's been a bit of a learning curve so I have decided to just draw faces of characters from illustrating stuffed animals. I am also attempting to create white boxing/grey boxing of gaming levels.

I watched the Mardi Gras on ABC TV as it was broadcasted live this year. So glad I didn't go as it rained although crowds & participants in the parade were undeterred. It was a 4 hour long parade. I almost fell asleep. How do people take toilet breaks? You would have to leave your spot and fight the crowds to the nearest portaloos then queue up for them then fight your way back through the crowds back - hopefully not losing your spot. By the time you got back you would have missed a good portion of the parade.

News headlines today include

A 90 minute Telstra outage yesterday resulted in a man dying as he could not get through to 000 & hundres of other calls could not get through to emergency services ( I was just have quite a discussion about this with an senior citizen last week during my digital mentoring session - it's scary - landlines are being replaced with calls over the internet and therefore if there is an emergency and the internet goes down due to a service providers outage, there is no other way of calling 000 emergency services as the telecommunication lines are cut off - this is a cost cutting strategy by telecommunication companies as who uses a landline now? Well overseas the property management company wanted to try and reduce cost and had considered replacing all landlines in the apartments with VoIP but have not yet due to the debate over this essential emergency services access ) Telstra was forced to apologize

It will be a litmus test for AA and PDs popularity at the by election of Dunkley today as tens of thousands vote  eventhough it is not a leadership vote a win will determine how well AA & PD are doing in the polling figures -- I thought AA was suppose to march at the Mardi Gras parade in Sydney tonight? Meanwhile there has been chaos with Mardi Gras protests clashing with police.

They still work by releasing a dose of nictoine.

It is becoming clear that polls are indicating Americans think  that Biden is becoming too old to be President at 81 years old if re elected he could be 86 by the time he is still in office but Trump his opponent is not far behind at 77 ,  there are also concerns he is also too old to be president. Accor Stadium turns 25 and there is discussions on possibly putting a roof on Accor stadium to increase it's capacity , to host more shows/games and to shelter from extreme weather conditions particularly after the stadium had to be evacuated during Tay Tay's concert previously due to severe rain and thunderstorms. Inspiration was taken from  the Alligent Stadium during the recent NRL games where the games are unaffected by extreme cyclone conditions outside of the stadium due to a stadium roof however the NSW government was not quick to approve any such mofifications to Accor Stadium due to the state budget priorities and disruption time due to construction but did not say no to it as a future project. So who won the first NRL games played at Alligent Stadium in Las Vagas? Sea Eagles verses Ranbitos & Broncos verses Roosters - what no helmets or padding gasped the American audiences? Was it Sea Eagles and Roosters that went onto win their games? Yep. but not marred by Bronco's Ezra Mam's compliant lodged to the referee of an allegedly racist comment made by a Roosters player calling him a monkey. The player has been charged as the teams return from Las Vagas.

AA has announced that King Charles will possibly be visiting Australia some time in the near future despite his cancer diagnosis and treatment. However since the King will not be able to visit all Australian states and territories which states the King wil visit on his first royal tour of Australia since becoming King will depend on what each state has to offer in it's programs as the Federal government has asked all states premiers and chief ministers to pitch to them why their state should be visited by the King and what their state can offer. NSW Premier Chris Minns seems to think he and the state of NSW don't need to submit a program pitch to the Federal government tp consider as he seems to think anyone who's does not visit Sydney has not visited Australia with its well known beaches and harbour. Some might think Vic and Tas maybe states the King should visit since he has not visited these states on an official royal tours and it may suit the Kings sustainability interests being less urban .

Tuesday 5th Match 2024

It is a cooler clearer day today with top  temperatures around the mid 20s today - perfect. Finally Autunn is arriving.

I have decided not to go to the volunteer digital mentoring session again today as it takes me 2 hours in total to get there and back and it is only a 1.5 hour session so most of my day is taken up. Last week there were too many mentors and not enough seniors needing help , one went home and to the gym whilst I stayed as there was one senior there that I noticed who did not have a digital mentor assisting him. I don't think he actually needs any help and is probably there to meet people although he does have a notebook where he has been making notes everywhere he goes to these sessions. I think I will just go every 2 weeks especially since my job seeker payments are on hold as I can't attend appointments as I am studying and have let APM know ow and asked to schedule appointments for Mondays which is my day off but have not heard them since. I also could not access the Workforce Australa or Centrelink  website over the weekend to check if I have any messages - I was unable to report any of my activities required.

I have been slack and not finishing off my assessments to submit - there are at least 4 half done assessments. I really should work on them.

Wednesday 6th March 2024

Today it was really hot again 29 degrees C but towards the evening it started to cool down.Classes from 10 am to 7 pm today. It's getting brutal and I'm always tired by the end of Wednesday's and almost dead by the end of Fridays. I am barely keeping up  . Assessments due everywhere and nothing seems to be sinking in. Lost before this mornings programming class as we never know which classroom we are suppose to be in due to the heat and no air-conditioning we have been moved from one classroom on level 2 in J block to another classroom on level 4 in J block & into to either of 2 classrooms on level 2 in B block . I went to the staff room to ask but nobody was there so another classmate and I went for a walk to B Block but were told no we were still in J block but no other classmates were in the classroom in J block on level 2 where we were suppose to be in. Our teacher was in an alternative classroom in j block on level 2 - 2 other classmates were there with her. Confused? We weren't the only ones and our teacher was confused wondering why we were walking to B block. That's because she had been away for the last week and we were in the other classroom the previous week and I swapped courses and classes ( group A to group B) the 2nd week of the course so even more confusing for me. Then there was the most disruptive classmate in our class who annoyed the hell out of everyone because he was "off his meds". Another classmate wanted to strangle him ( not physically) mentally and so did I! I could not even correct my auto correct line of code without him leaning over me shouting "What the hell!" I had to tell him that I knew what I was doing and literally tell him to go away.

During Studio Practice from 5 pm - 7 pm I usually stay because I want to work on assessments at my own pace. I was a little behind on my first game design assessment as I was having trouble accessing my artwork that  worked on from my phone to the tafe email. I asked a classmate how to get my tafe email to work as Outlook kept coming up with error messages and would not open. I  ended up bookmarking a link that she gave me which as added to favourites and worked.

A quick grocery shop at St Leonards Station at the Coles after walking via the underpass to the new residential complex. Home on the bus. Almost straight to sleep.

28 degrees today and a possible shower - why is it still so hot!

What am I struggling in classes because there are too many distractions in some of the  classes.

This afternoon a random student from the art class just walks in during our break and holds up a sign asking if the internet wS down. Yep the Tafe internet had just gone down. She was wearing noise cancelling earphone ( I asked her if they were) - I really need to get a pair! She starts talking to me wondering why she did and if she was on a break - no she wasn't on a break she just likes to walk in and out of her class next door - the art class has one long class all day from 10 - 4 30 pm with a 30 minute lunch break) so they can take a break from their work whenever they like. I think she just wanted to say hi to our teacher who was busy helping us with whatever we were doing - which was programing camera swaps from between first and third person controller. Don't ask I don't quite understand how the cameras work I just know if the teacher says to attach a script to the player ( a capsule) I just drop and dragthe appropriate scipt to the the player ( a capsule).. Anyway this girl that came in and started talking to me - did I know her. No I just met her at lunch time for a few minutes when I went over to say hello to another girl I knew from the art class I transferred from sitting alone having her lunch and who I had not seen for a few weeks . I don't even see her at Studio Practice classes as we had a United class then it became separate classes then it became a very disruptive united class again and then became a seaparate class again - well not really only 4 of us  older students stay for studio practice. I use this class to work on other assessments as I am a little behind . I am not having trouble with my studio practice assessments as I have already submitted 2 of them with a third one at least half way finished and just needs a big tidy up.

Friday 8th March 2024

It's Friday and it's still so hot. There is rain forcasted but not a lot. I can feel that nights are getting longer and daylight savings does not end until April 7th I think. ( hope I have phrased this correctly) .

So tired by Friday afternoon. Intro to Unity was a bit of a fun class although I don't know how much of it stuck. It started off with 3D modeling in either pro builder maya or blender none of which I have mastered using so I cheated and used 3D paint found a trophy and that was my answer to the exercise - I did have a go at 3D modeling the trophy but it wasn't very good. It was blue and made up with 2 hand drawn handles, a rectangular platform and 2 triangles inverted so the 2 points touched each other. This was followed by playing with the  particle & VFX I didn't intend to but I made a rather futuristic pulsing weapon ( probably because I was didn't 100% know what I was doing and it was an accident like all the other stuff I do)

I walked home again and it was still really hot but did see a classmate sitting at the bus stop waiting for the hourly 291 bus . She had to wait another 22 minutes until her bus came. I said I'll keep you company as I did not have anything on this afternoon. I was unsure if she wanted me too but she was waiting alone so I  thought for her"safety" it was a good (for reasons I was aware of). She is an adult but even as an adult safety is important. So I left her a few minutes before her bus was due to arrive - 3 x 144 buses arrived one after another and a few Hills buses passed by whilst I was walking home but no 291 yet. I hope the bus arrived otherwise it was another hour before the next 291 arrives or she will have to take a bus or train to chatswood them the Metro then another bus or train or walk.

Home eat ( my lunch) then sleep.

Thursday 14th March 2024

So allergic today same with yesterday.

As usual it was another exhausting 2 classes today but we got away with time to work on our assessments. So many of them!

It is really unclear which assessment isdue when . I just do whichever ones I feel like doing.

I left a lityle earlier about 30 - 45 minutes early today as half of the class did. The other half we just chatting to the teacher or half working on assignments.

It was a stinking hot day today. Our OOPS teacher did not really want to teach and his assessment has been taken already by our Intro To Programming class  teacher and In Game Systems class today we learnt about OOPS basically again but in a different format. We also used Draw IO  and  debug a script of code written in C# in unity.  It was a timed exercise which I almost completed. We had 15 minutes to debug it. I was missing a few which I kind of knew but did not want to amend in the script unless it was actually correct. If your script has bugs in it you can't drag it onto your objects in Unity until you fix them all! I like debugging but I don't like coding - too much typing. yes yes I know there is auto suggestion however this can get annoying and start putting code where you don't want it especially those pesky brackets!

I walked home again today which means I walked at least 20 minutes total today .

It's quicker cheaper and healthier then waiting & catching the bus!

Anger over a "Robotax" crackdown . The ATO is cracking down on old "on hold"  tax debts. The ATO does not have the power to write of tax debts only the minister can do this. Sunday 17th March 2024

It raining on and off from last evening throughout the night at times quite heavily. This morning it is still raining. I must go out today as I need to get groceries.

Today I made myself go out and went to Cicular Quay to see the St Patrick's Day celebrations. I missed the parade that was on at 11 am but did manage to line up for about 10 - 14m5 minutes in order to get into one of several sites along Circular Quay's Harbour and spotted The Soda Bread stall and purchased 2 potato bread rounds for $15. Yes they are expensive and I had no idea how greasy they were until I saw the paper bag they were in soaked in grease but I have had one in a very long time and quite like them. What's in them I have no idea. I used to buy them once a month whenever I went to a farmers market and found them which was not every month as they were not always at the market I went to. Today I just made my purchase and squeezed my way through the crowds finding the nearest exit out of First Fleet Park. I did not stay to  even listen to the live music, there were just too many people in a sea of green. A giant puddle was my first obstacle in the park. The smell of burgers, sausages, cardboard cartons of loaded hot chips ( particularly the curry ones from the what does Old Dave's food truck sell?) and what's an Irish celebration without plenty of Guinness served in clear plastic tumblers to wash it all down was all around me.

It took me longer then usual to get into the city why - track work on the Metroline and the middle of the Northern line yet again cutting it in half with just one station closed - Milsons Point requiring a bus replacement service from North Sydney to Wynyard just to get over the bridge. I was lucky to get a seat on the waiting double decker bus on the upper deck ( refer my video on my YouTube channel).

After looking at how lucky the Irish passengers who were on the cruise ship docked at the international passenger terminal were to have the opportunity to celebrate St Patrick's Day on Sydney Harbour today, it was time for me to go to the MCA to have a look at the first of several venues hosting part of the Sydney Biennale Ten Thousand Suns. There were 2 halls on the first level of the MCA and I sure had some favourite pieces of artwork. 2 in the first hall and 2 in the second. Whilst I was at the NCA I went upto level 2 and had a look at the museum's collection of  the artists in focus.  Visitors to Sydney should visit the MCA it's tiny but has nice views of the harbour from each floor through large corner windows.

After that it was a walk to the IGA where there was a slow stream of customers walking into the supermarket but it was like a ghost town down there - I did not see a single staff member until the very end when I went to pay for my grocery items who could hardly be seen amongst the rows of self service checkouts in the corner - no community brand milk disappointment! That's why I shop at the local IGA just for their non lactose long life milk and a brand of chips I can't find at other supermarkets. Got the chips though with a few other things. Shelves were empty, the cheese and deli bars were closed, the restaurant was closed, all the other counters were closed and most concerning was there was pools of water everywhere on the floor near the freezer sections. oh dear what was there no one to clean this up. Why do they even bother to open on Sundays - the other IGA at Wynyard doesn't open on Sundays.

A walk down to Woolworths Town Hall which also has a smaller Big W above it . I wish Coles had a proper city supermarket instead of just a Local or what used to be a Coles Express very close to where the IGA is now. I am beginning to think Coles owns IGA as they are always swapping each other's locations.

At Woolwirths I did a more comprehensive shop and also got myself some more change for the laundry but I still could not find quite a few items on my shopping list.

Armed with a rather heavy bag of groceries I headed to the bus stops where I thought there was a bus tgat could get me quite close to where I live but still need a transfer bus . Yep I was right the 320 bus that goes to Gore Hill. At least I could get across the bridge  without too many transfers. I had already made a mistake not staying on the McMahon bus all the way to North Sydney station today wondering why there were so many people waiting outside St Leonards Station for a bus. That's 3 transfers instead of just 2. So the 320 from Town Hall station was full when it came so I waited for the next one 18 minutes later which as full but not as full as the last one that I could not get on. Well I could have but let others on first I was not as  desperate to get home. I got off at St Leonards to transfer onto a 144 bus.

I hate the predictive text even when I spell words correctly it changes them to a completely different word!!!!

Home it was unpack the groceries, take my rubbish out and do my laundry .I was up quite late. One of the neighbours always leaves their laundry in the dryer do I had to take it out and put it in his laundry basket. So I could use the dryer. I chatted with my other neighbour who has everything. Not wanting to touch my neighbours clothes in the community dryer, I used disoosable gloves my other neighbour had and gave me. Yep he has a box of disposable gloves for cleaning and I thought I was bad using gloves to take the bins out when the neighbour who should be doing it doesn't ( the one who is getting paid $10 a week to do so!). The blue & yellow bins weren't taken out last week and they are overflowing - even the Asian ms collecting earn and return bottles every day walked straight past them not touching them!

I dried my clothes for 80 minutes to ensure they were sterilised dry!I use powder antibacterial and liquid antibacterial in hot water as well as detergent with Eucalytus  in it already.

By the time I finush my laundry folding it as well and uploaded only the first few of my videos onto my YouTube channel it was really late.

Sleep no time to do my assessments or fix my Unity problem . So tired.

No time to go to Melbourne for the Good Food & Wine Month this year or see a movie from the French Film Festival this week.

Saturday

25 degrees C and cloudy today.

A do nothing day today . Assessment day where I was working on my emerging technology assessment. Too many theory assessments to be completed.

I could not sleep last night too many assignments due so tried to sleep in this morning and usually switch the TV on around 7 am to watch the news but this morning at 6.30 am I switch on the TV and the news has already started to air . Who knows what time the news broadcast started this morning? Daylight savings hasn't ended yet so this can't be the reason for the earlier news broadcast.

The first thing I see when I turn on the TV at 6.30 am is the Princess of Wales with a rather lengthy & public announcement that she is undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer. Shock. She had not been seen since Christmas and the world knew she had scheduled abdominal surgery which was major although the type unknown and was in hospital for 2 weeks with time off to recover until after Easter  but now the public know that she has since been diagnosed with cancer and undergoing preventative chemotherapy.  The King himself has been close and supportive to his daughter in law.The kids have been taken out of school earlier before their Easter break as the announcement took place to avoid social media and discussions by their classmates and the Rishi Sunak UK prime minister even sends his message of support.. I say again just leave Kate alone to recover. She will appear in public when she is ready. She should not have had to interrupt her sick leave to make the announcement to the public about her health status unless she intended to do so.Trubutes have flooded into Kate including former Australian  PM Scomo, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, US first lady Jill Biden , the French president & his wife the Macrons even Harry & Meghan sent a brief message.

I missed the beginning of it but by 8 pm was on a bus back to Chatswood ( it was very late so I decided not to take the train back home) and the moon was full and bright - glowing in the sky to the right. It had become dark very quickly as I was walking around the showground out at Plympic Park. At sunset there as a clear contrast between the pink against the black in the sky.

On my way home I did a quick grocery shop at Woolworth Metro Chatswood used the self check outs which are so slow. Come on Woolworths update and upgrade your technology there are always self checkouts here that are down & out of order.
