Finally it's onto the very long awaited Cake Bake & Sweet Show Sydney at the ICC Darling Harbour on Sunday
It is open from 10 am to 5 pm and I really don't want to go as I am so "evented" out.
It is now noon and I'm just about to head out to the show. I planned not to spend too much time there as I will be in Melbourne next Saturday for the same show and plan to take it much more seriously there being a working weekend along with attending the Myer AGM followed by the Big Design Market hopefully on Friday.
Spending just 4 hours or so at the show today will be enough.
TBC when I arrive at the show.
OK I arrive at the show around 1.45 pm and there is no queue to get in. Once in it is not as crowded or as big as I thought it would be. No big international celebrity chefs only local ones.
There were quite a few cake decorating suppliers there as well as free baking and decorating demonstrations.
Probably the highlight of the show was the cake decorating and sugar art competition sponsored by Loyale.
Kitchenaid again had a stand at the show and supplied the demonstration stages with their stand mixers and other pieces of equipment.
Strangest stand at the show was Woll cookware and even celebrity chef Miguel ( crazy bull) had a stand and a rather large food and drink concession there.
Gelato , fudge, chocolate, cakes, pastries, macarons, expresso martinis, and coffee in a cone, fancy donuts, blue tea which turns purple pink when lemon juice is added, fairy floss of countless flavours, brownies, cake in a mug, biscuits, cookies, cake stands, high tea, bees wax wraps, book stalls, even vaccum blenders etc were all present at the show
Just watched the final demonstration with Kirsten Tibbals from Savour @ the For The Love of Cooking stage.
photos attached.
spotting local celebrity chefs
Cake Decorating Competition sponsored by Loyale - so many beautiful cakes made by talented cake decorators however looking at certain cakes I couldn't figure out how these cakes won or didn't win a placing in the competition
chocolate demonstration with Kirsten Tibbels - the chocolate twigs she created looked fantastic. The stories she told of how she got to where she is was also amusing.
No queues on Sunday to get in - only 1 hall meant it was a pretty small show this year
Time to head home soon @ around 4 pm. Why do my hands smell of chocolate? Change of mind watched Katherine Sabath make her Norwok cake as stalls start packing up. Spotting any celebrity chefs along the way.
Rating : 7/10, a little disappointing, hoping Melbourne show is better. I suspect the numbers attending were down. Beautiful day why would you want to be indoors? Free m & m bars as you exited and full sized Greens cake in a mug to try at show - a little too sweet for my liking so I toned it down with some plain Greek style yoghart on offer. Difficult to gauge which event was better the Sweet Expo or this years Cake Bake and Sweet Show both in Sydney.
