Friday 29th November - Monday 2nd December 2019 - Cake Bake & Sweet Show Melbourne 2019

Friday straight after work another overnight XPT trip Sydney to Melbourne first class seat C12 - pretty good seat as there is no seat in front of me but no tray table or foot rest either! Plenty of leg room but not the most comfortable seat. The train was just a little late ie under 60 minutes late.

Saturday was the continuation of Black Friday Cyber Monday sales so I went to Docklands to go shopping for the day - a white cotton shirt a pair of flat black sandals and a few other things. Overnight at the YHA Melbourne Central Room 313 in a 3 share female dorm.

Sunday I thought I was only going to spend a few hours at the Cake Bake & Sweet Show in Melbourne but ended up spending a whole day there. Since the Sydney Cake Bake & Sweet show was so bad I just had to go to the Melbourne one. In summary I rate it 7/10. Far from perfect but a nice improvement. More related stalls,  a larger crowd on the same day I visited the Sydney one ie Sunday and Poh was a refreshing additional celebrity chef.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

The Good
Theromix Tupperware & Kitchenaid were sponsors of the Melbourne show. Enter to win a Kitchenaid was on again by scanning your entry ticket.

Poh from Masterchef 10.45 am first off the block at the Super Theatre - she cooked a savoury and a sweet dish. Updated us with her latest activities. A breath of fresh air from the repeat line up of celebrity chefs.

Poh @ The Show - savoury dish fried whole fish with a chilli sauce & sweet dish Malaysian coconut steamed dumpling wrapped in a banana leaves.

Anna Polyviou she was entertaining us at the entrance to the show from 9.30 am. Did she do that in Sydney? Can't remember it was such a blur. She said she loved making pinatas so she made it again at this Cake Bake & Sweet show Super Theatre. I wonder who the guinea pigs were this time to hold the pinata, lay under it and smash the pinata!?

More yummy treats - Matcha Rasberry & White Chocolate Brownie and Anushka's Russian layered honey cake in original or chocolate  - I wish I could have bought a whole boxed one back to Sydney but she advised me better not to. It was to die for!

Matcha Rasberry & White Chocolate Brownie yummy!

Pandan Not A Fan!

Miguel didn't have dancers on stage but he did throw a lot of rice from the VIP area where he was cooking up a huge paella but it was still an entertaining show in Melbourne. And nice to see Kirsten Tibballs let herself loose with her disco dance moves and brilliant pitching arm in between her baking demonstrations on stage.

The Art of Cake Competition - wow! spectacular cakes and no blank black tables! I actually got a token to vote for my favourite cake this time round! Still no major sponsor though. Double the amount of cakes entered then the Sydney show.

Loads more baking and cake decorating suppliers. Still out of stock of some embossed rolling pins however I managed to get myself that flower nail 3 embossed rolling pins and some gold shimmer dust.

Cookies & Cake Decorating Supplies Galore!
(with a Christmas themes too!)

Caramel Apples

The Queens selfie booth was a giant tiered cake rather then the swing that was present at the Sydney show.

Finally what is a Cake Bake and Sweet Show without good cheese and some wine. Wine Selectors was present just as they were with the Sydney show but what was more a hit was the cheese. 2 stands were present King Island Cheese which had queues waiting to get into their cute stand for tastings and possibly purchases and one of my favourites from the Good Food and Wine show Woombye Cheeses - totally sold out by the end of Sunday, I purchased one of the final 3 blocks of vintage chedder where they threw in a note pad pen and packet of lavosh all for $10 complete with a cooler bag abd ice blocks. And something different Murray River Salt had a stall selling their salt and of course their salted chocolate bars - just had to purchase one as a gift for my boss - nothing goes better then chocolate and salt or caramel! Speaking of which tgey also served up a thick hot chocolate made with coconut milk and a sprinkle of salt. Yum!

The Bad
I don't like Sammy from MKR fame being the host of the Super Theatre. I got the correct a answer but the prize went to someone else. How rude.

Bake and Take classes fully booked out for all 3 days.

The Art of Cake Competition could have been laid out better. The first lane displayed cakes on both sides which meant instead of one way traffic it needed to be two way traffic as you can't see both sides at once. The second lane was one sided with cakes therefore one way traffic worked well.

Celebrity chefs demonstrating the same cakes and desserts except at different workshops.

Loads of giveaways thrown out but I only ended up with 2 bags of lollies from the dental stand - 2 sets of teeth how ironic. I managed to grab 2 lolly bags and notice a young girl trying to catch a giveaway but not receiving any so I passed her one of my lolly bags - I only need 1 set of teeth not 2 ( get it?) Maybe a little dangerous to the audience.

The selfie station out the front entrance to Melbourne Cake Bake & Sweet Show at The Melbourne Exhibition Centre was still a bunch of balloons streamers and a few branded cake bake and sweet show ballons but a bubble machine was added to the already unstable selfie set up which looked as if it was about to collapse if the bubble machine was operating any stronger!

4.30 pm and I am just about to depart the show which closes at 5 pm today on it's final day - exhausted but I enjoyed it - back to the YHA to retrieve my luggage from the pay locker then snacks water and board the overnight XPT Melbourne Southern Cross Station back to Sydney Central at 7.50 pm - you guessed it - it was late departing due to late arrival. About an hour late arriving into Sydney or was it a little more? Lost count  slept quite well in Seat B02- close to the luggage rack front seat right leg out - this was a more comfortable seat ideal for taller people. I placed my bags in front of me half under the table and rest my legs on top of them and recline  seat right back - almost like sleeping flat in a sleeper. Back in Sydney in no time - train a little late .

Home before 10 am ( including basics shopping enroute).
