Sunday 2nd June 2019 - VIVID 2019 Circular Quay West & The Rocks

On this side of Circular Quay there maybe a few less light installations but there are quite a few projections to watch and interactives.

I had a few favourites not in order  - # 1 Regal Peacock, # 13 Beat-loon , # 11 Ballerina, #3 Buglhunt, # 4 Watch Your Chips!, #6 Nostalgia Above & # 14 Let It Snow and the P1 PIXAR ANIMATION STUDIOS 30 Years of Art & Animation
(projected onto the Argyle Street tunnel).

I wasn't that interested in the projection on the Opera House sails this year even from the opposite side of the Opera House  and only watched parts of the projections on the MCA building facades.

I visited S1 Samsung Electric Playground but did not go into S2 Galaxy Studio ( it did not look as if it was open) .What did I think - it was so so - not as innovative as in previous years - budget cuts perhaps?! Use your finger and press the finger print button to activate the towers of light , play "hopscotch" by stepping on panels to light them up (how boring seen and done it before) or walk through flexible poles of light ( boring skiing top to bottom down a mountain with only glow sticks to guide you down a run is much more fun), slide down an enclosed slippery slide (look a little to small for my liking), how about having a go at a lit up multicolored  hola hoop? - probably the least boring activity was the "skywalk" to take photos of the surrounds of VIVID - well only First Fleet Park ( the Samsung Electronic Playground is nowhere near the foreshore of the Opera House this year and not even near the Overseas Passenger Terminal!)

There was one fascinating light display this year which did not seem to have a description of what it was (located inside the Overseas Passenger Terminal) or whether it was part of VIVID as there were no VIVID volunteer staff around. It was one of my favourites and I could have spent hours watching it. I dared not sit down on the floor or worse still lie down with others in fear of falling  asleep watching it's repetitive colour changing balls in synchronised pendulum swinging  & wave motions - very hypnotic & something every parent should have garanteed to make kids fall asleep! I have uploaded a video onto YouTube. Photos above. Refer Facebook for other photos including Samsung Electric Playground.

Back home by 10 pm as it was a shorter visit then the East Circular Quay & The Royal Botanic Gardens visit.
