Sunday 11th June 2017 - VR experience 2 MYUBI @ Sydney Film Festival Hub Lower Town Hall.

No photos for this event attended as it was a virtual reality movie.

Virtual reality technology has advanced rapidly in the past 2 -3 years. Over these few years I have watched quite a number of virtual reality movies and shorts. Initially they all seemed very 2 dimensional and flat.

In this particular movie the virtual reality was so virtual, it actually made me feel really dizzy watching it at the beginning as I was physically spinning around in my chair watching and absorbing the 3D surroundings in the movie.

I had purchased a ticket in advance for the 5 pm Sunday session as sessions on Friday Saturday and Sunday were filling up - some sessions even sold out ( I couldn't get a ticket as for the 9 minute VR experience 1 "Life of Us" as VR experience 1 was sold out for every single session from opening night to closing night - 18th June 2017 in advance)

VR experience 2 "MIYUBI" is a story about a Japanese robot a father brings home as a companion for his family in his absence overseas. The family also consists of mum, 2 younger siblings a boy and a girl (both really cute) , an older teenage son (with a pot smoking friend) and their grandfather who suffers from dementia).

The 40 minute movie is Canadian set in what looks like the 1980s (did not pay much attention to MIYUBI 's date logs constantly appearing on screen) from the kitchness of the house decor and fashion. MIYUBI is a 1980s/1990s robot but his replacement looks like a 2000s robot. Yes MYUBI becomes obsolete as he increasingly malfunctions towards the end of the movie - Spoiler alert!

Jeff Goldblum is meant to have a cameo role in it but I did not see him appear until the end as the creator before the credits rolled. This cameo is no surprise to me as he is known for his roles in science and science fiction movies/documentries.
