Saturday 30th May - Sunday 31st May 2020 - Still Unemployed & Nothing To Blog About Really

Everything is beginning to get back to normal with a lot of bars restaurants cafes and attractions opening up on Monday 1st of June. If this is happening why isn't my life getting back to normal? Despite having applied to at least 10 volunteer positions and at least 1 job a day for the entire time I have been unemployed ie 10 weeks why have I not had a single job interview? Not even responses to my applications even with follow ups.

Nobody will be hiring because everyone who was working and was stood down or had their hours cut were put on JobKeeper by their employers and as companies reopen they will be re employing their existing employees on JobKeeper although not to the full extent therefore no company will be hiring additional staff because they won't need any additional staff. If someone is on JobKeeper the employer will be rehiring them first as the employer will be subsidised by JobKeeper payments and would not have to pay their employees to work. Because my employer did not put me on JobKeeper when they should have - I am unemployable and have to remain on JobSeeker and possibly be unemployed past September when it is rumoured the JobKeeper payments will be phased out - no employer is going to hire a new employee as they will have to pay their wages and not be eligible or subsidised by JobKeeper payments.
Note : JobKeeper payments are meant to be backdated as companies rehire employees that have been stood down. Therefore employers should not be out of pocket.

I still think my employer has done something illegal by not putting me on JobKeeper as in the future they will eventually return to a stage where they will need additional staff again and if they have to hire new staff they won't be able to apply for JobKeeper payments for new employees.

Applied for at least 5 more positions over the weekend.

Watched Masterchef & fell asleep again.

End of Week 10 of life as unemployed.
