Saturday 30th September 2017 - Chatswood BBQ Kitchen

Food glorious food! I decided to treat myself to a meal of BBQ duck and rice from Chatswood BBQ Kitchen on Saturday night. I don't usually eat out on a Saturday night because it is so busy in Chatswood. Even ordering takeaway was a minimum wait of 10 minutes as the restaurant had run out of cooked rice which is prepared in one of 3 jumbo sized rice cookers. I am surprised they had not run out of BBQ duck soya chicken or BBQ pork.
During a week night this has happened to me and I have had to find another restaurant that has BBQ duck to order takeaway.

A good Chinese BBQ duck has to full of Chinese 5 spice flavour with that star anise taste. It should not be dry or too fatty. The skin has to be thin and crisp with most of the duck fat rendered away. There should be a nice layer of meat and not just skin and bone. How it is deboned and presented is also important. At Chatswood BBQ Kitchen they seem to hack the duck into chunks leaving tge bone still intact which causes splintering of bone fragments from the duck into the rice ehich is not very pleasant. I have had BBQ duck with rice where the BBQ duck has been so welked chopped up into pieces there are no bone fragments. A BBQ duck dish should not only be serced with steaming plain rice and a side of green vegetables but a side cintainer of plum sauce. Unfortunately mine did nit come with it thus time round which shows an inconsistency at Chatswood BBQ Kitchen. The juices from the BBQ duck should also drizzle over the rice.

Rating : 7/10 not the best takeaway BBQ duck and rice I have eaten. Bone fragments present and no plum sauce included.

Photos atrached. Chatswoid BBQ Kitchen located on main drag of Chatswood on Victoria Ave (near larger of the 2 Chemist warehouses) - look for the window full of hanging whole BBQ ducks slabs of BBQ pork and whole soya chickens! Seating inside available with specials and full menu
