Tuesday 31st March 2020 - Day 7 & 8 of Joblessness Continued

Today I did absolutely nothing except watch the SBS Food Channel, YouTube & TikTok.

I did do a bit of cooking - Mexican bean and mince burritos and baked another citrus chocolate brownie. ( which gets better the longer you keep it in the fridge)

No banging hammering or drilling today so I guess the tradesmen finished installing the nbn a day early.

I had posted an ad on Gumtree looking for work and had a response today but whether or not this employer was genuine I am unsure. Sounded pretty dodgy so I have left it for now.

Nice of Centrelink to send me back a response to my inquiry a week ago but when will I get a payment?

I did not venture out for a walk today nor did I go to the supermarkets - I have given up on finding toilet paper. I still have a few rolls left and if I run out can always use my tissues ( the plain white ones not the frangipani fragrance pink ones!) or go to my offsite storage and retrieve my floral or frog printed reserve toliet paper rolls.

I definitely won't run out of food ( maybe just chocolate)  but I do need to buy some antihistamines. Allergies are flaring up - itchy skin and watery eyes mainly but sometimes I sneeze have a runny nose and a non continuous cough which is probably my asthma flaring up.

Today I also messaged my friends around the world  to ensure they were all safe. My South Korean friend is ok and working from home but new cases all the time, my Brazilian friend is ok as her city is in lockdown no new cases, my German friend is ok, my Scottish and English friends seem ok as they are still posting on Facebook and my HK penpal's family are OK but still hundred of new cases. My Canadian friend is in self isolation in Sydney but there are other friends I have not heard back from yet. Just got a message from my friend in France - she is OK as well. Overnight I  just received a message from my friend in the US although she's on Facebook I still sent her a message and she's ok - looks like she is doing great after graduating from the Clinton School of Public Service.

I think I will have a monkey banana or 2 - they taste so good - they were all for my smoothie and banana bread I had planned to make - too late.

Before I go to bed tonight there is a activity called "bear hunting" happening around Melbourne where people placed stuffed animals such as teddy bears in their windows to give kids something to do when they go on a walk with their parents. The aim of the activity was spot these bears by creating  a safe walking trail marked by these bears in windows. I have placed my Billy ( Easter is coming up)  and my possum in my window although the bear hunting activity is not in Sydney yet it will at least spark curiosity.

Shower and bed - tomorrow I plan to empty my trash and at some stage do my laundry.

Day 8 of Joblessness
Another do nothing day except I did go out to empty my garbage armed with a spray bottle of hospital grade disinfectant , dressed in old tracky daks and a long sleeved t shirt and a makeshift mask fashioned out of my bandana. Bag in hand I disinfect the handle and keyhole of  my door, my keys, the outside door and repeated after dumping my rubbish into the garbage bin located in the outside dumpster area. As soon as i get back inside the apartment buolding I disinfect myself and wash my hands. Yuk.

I'm cleaning my entire apartment now. I may go for a walk to a supermarket later. Will see if I can be bothered.

Watched Tiktok again and found a video of a lady using a sanitary pad as a mask. Not a very good video and I actually did the same a few days ago but my method was a bit more sophistocated. Mine stayed on and I used 2 thin panty liners instead of a thick overnight pad. I also had a reusuable washable cloth mask that happened to have a pocket inside it obviously designed to hold some sort of replacable filter pad. I was able to fit overlapped 2 thin panty liners inside this pocket quite perfectly. All I did was removed the liners adhesive backing and stuck them inside the pocket - sticky strip facing outwards not towards my face. I thought this was the most logical as 1. they are breathable 2. the waterproof lining will keep germs in and out. The disadvantage is it still gets a little hot after a while - pads are meant to absorb moisture so you will probably still only have a 40 window of effectiveness.

More food shows - I watched the Come Dine With Me series - it is a bit like My Kitchen Rules a cooking show we have in Australia now 11 years old which competes with Masterchef on another channel although each of their seasons don't overlap on tv - one finishes the next one starts.

Shower & sleep end of another day.

Monday 30th March 2020 - Day 6 of Joblessness Continued

Today I started my online course and completed week 1 of it. This was the easy week. Next week will be the more challenging week of the course and it will be the final week of the course.

Today there was more drilling and banging but less hammering which means the installation of the nbn is almost complete. The tradesmen's hours worked here are getting less as well.

I left in the afternoon to search for toliet paper again at yet another 2 supermarkets ( that's 9 supermarkets now!) - still no luck at 2 supermarkets so I walked back to the Woolworths Metro and where there was no toliet paper either but some boxes of tissues so I purchased 2 boxes of it. What's with the boxes of aloe vera and eucalyptus tissues? Plenty of those left that nobody wanted. I had to look behind an empty carton to find 2 boxes of plain tissues -  to think I almost purchased the expensive smaller boxes of Kleenex tissues on the shelf below or the eucalyptus or aloe vera ones!

I also had a look at whether the other supermarkets (Aldi & Coles) had any tonic water - nothing empty shelves and plenty of Soda water again. What are people doing with it all? It's just as bad as trying to find a roll of toliet paper! I asked one of the Coles staff that was restocking the shelves nearby why there is no tonic water and what people are doing with it. He said they are using it as mixers for making cocktailsbefore adding  "Don't you know all the bars pubs and clubs are closed so people can't go out for a drink so instead are making their own drinks and getting pissed at home!"  - I knew that but surely you don't use tonic water to mix all your alcoholic drinks - what's wrong with using plain old soda water? I'm sure all those green, pink or blue "LEMONADES" my parents were making for us to drink as kids was made with Midori ( I don"t think it was Absinthe - I hope not! Maybe that's why I was having all those intense and weird nightmares),  Grenadine or Creme de Menthe were made using soda water or lemonade as a mixer and not tonic water!
( note : it was the 1970's and my father and other relatives and friends owned restaurants).

I don't drink by the way.

I am watching a few cooking shows then sleep again.

No tonic water

empty toliet paper shelves replaced with Easter eggs - who's going to buy them? - nobody wants them.

Friday 27th March 2020 - Day 3 - Day 5 Of Joblessness Continued

This has been the longest month of my life and it is still not the end of March!

Fall is now in full swing and it will get cooler soon. Nobody knows how the Corona virus will react as we head towards our Winter as the rest of the Northern Hemispher heads towards Summer. Will the Northern Hemisphere countries have an advantage when it comes to overcoming the Corona virus pandemic or is there no seasonal disadvantage against the Corona virus?

I have now been redundant from my job for 3 days now however I still haven't had much luck completing my final application to get Centrelink payments. Time is ticking and of the 14 days to have to lodge the application  I now only have 11 days left - just as well March is a very long month!! I try day and night to upload supporting documents and it does not help that the landlord decides to organise for the nbn to be installed in the apartment block so everyday starting from Wednesday to next Tuesday there has and will be hammering banging and drilling all day and into the night if necessary. It will drive me crazy. Even putting earplugs in has not helped.

So I am forced to take a walk and get out and about every day. I am calling it my 5 pm walk ( not always the case but it seems to be an afternoon routine  walk)

Today I walked down the opposite direction to another suburb about equal distant away  - again I did not make it all the way down to a place called Pottery Green I think to explore, instead I spent a rather long time at the larger local supermarket.

There was still a pallet of unopened brand named toilet paper of 6 pkt double length with no price on it and it was the only pallet of toilet paper available however it didn't come cheap and when I inquired how much it was I was told around $11. I returned it after saying I don't need that much it would last me months - true I only needed a few more spare rolls and I don't really like fancy stuff, it doesn't seem to flush very well and we were warned from the beginning when all this toilet paper tissue paper towel and wipes hoarding started to be aware of what we flushed down our toilets as they could become clogged and create "fatbergs" and we certainly don't want that to happen. We don't want more people becoming sick due to poor hygiene or sanitation.

I had a good look at what other products were well stocked, low on stock and out of stock and in short supply and the following items were

Plentiful
garbage bags
cheaper bottles of laundry sanitiser
fresh fruit and vegetables
meat and poultry products eg deli meats ( except for any type of mince)
bread and flat breads
honey
jam
alternative types of sweeteners (such as golden syrup, treacle, maple syrup, stevia, molasses
other forms of artifical sweeteners
honey (most types)
chips & other snacks eg nuts
lollies
sweet & savoury biscuits
cheeses
yogharts
kombucha
fresh juices ( except canned or longlife) fresh milk (except for long life)
soya milk & other milk alternatives
yakault
most forms of chocolates including blocks of cooking & compound chocolate (except for plain blocks of milk or dark)
tinned beans
fresh fish
fresh chicken
fresh lamb
all fresh pork products especially bacon and sausages
sausages ( except lamb and beef)
most non antibacterial cleaning products
batteries
candles
airfreshers
haberdashery
underwear
pantyhose
socks
petfood
stationery
garden supplies
matches
torches
bottled water and soft drink ( except tonic water)
bar soap
shampoo
conditioner
moisturiser
body wash
toothpaste
butter blends and butter alternatives

Limited
white sugar
plain flour
antibacterial cleaning products
lasagna sheets
baby wipes ( wet but not antibacterial or toliet flushable wipes)
mouthwash (alcohol free)
pain and fever medication
cold and flu tablets
feminine hygiene products
boxed and packet cake and baked product mixes

toliet paper
paper towels
tissues
antibacterial (sprays wipes and liquid)
antiseptic
disposable gloves
tea tree  & eucalypus oils
mouthwash (alcohol)
tinned corn beef
antibacterial or germ killing soap bars and hand wash (liquid and foam)
mince ( all chicken turkey lamb and beef)

I have not exhausted my list above. I am still trying to get some of my items from my shopping list from 2 weeks ago. Now if I go to a different supermarket I grab what I can if I see it from my 2 week old shopping list. Last time there was 1 box of tissues that were not the cheapest type that noone seemed to want so I took it thinking I didn't really need it and put it down briefly only to keep it as I have not been able to get my hands on any toliet paper fir over a week. Still not a single bottle of tonic water on shelves - soon there will be no gin as well as distillers are switching  towards distilling alcohol  to make hand sanitiser. Also see a Facebook post about making zero proof gin using tonic water  - so that is where the tonic water is going- can't get real gin make a fake one yourself!

Another supermarket full of empty shelves where the bottles of Tonic Water should be!

When I came out of  the supermarket ( as it was about to close) after asking for directions on how to get onto street level through it's carpark - it was dark and I was a little lost not having been to this shopping village before. I eventually found my way back onto the main road and headed straight home. You know how you look out for landmarks to guide you when you visit new places - I spotted the cute little pizza store and restaurant that I passed on my way to the supermarket and that made me realise that I was heading in the right direction onto the main road.

Even with the installation of the nbn continuing until Tuesday , to lessen my boredom I enrolled to do an online computer coding course with Future Learn. I think it is free. I haven't studied with them for about 1 or 2 years now. ( refer my previous blog on AI). Course starts Monday.

Day 4 of Joblessness ( Saturday 28th March) - I did absolutely nothing except sleep cook eat and watch tv).

Day 5 of Joblessness ( Sunday 29th March) - I had to get out. After eating, cooking and eating , I hot bored of watching tv , facebook and youtube so went for a walk down to the  train station and the supermarket there. I found a few more things on my shopping list but still no toliet paper, tissues, paper towels I needed. I could not even find fruit leather or blocks of dark chocolate but I did find Yakault, head and shoulders conditioner and canned corn beef. I also purchased a bag of spinach and flat bread .

Installed tiktok and started watching that. A little more interesting then facebook although I'll probably be bored of that soon. I have given up on instagram and twitter already.

Sleep again.

Thursday 26th March 2020 - Greenwich Proper & Greenwich Village

I have only been jobless for 2 days and I'm already going a bit crazy.

Yesterday I spent nearly an entire day trying to at least register for welfare payments. I try to avoid claiming it whenever possible and it's been so long since I last claimed welfare payments I had to be reactivated on their system. More and more people are losing their jobs - it is insane. More insane than the last GFC and that was really bad although that was a time when I got the opportunity to do something I would not have applied to do and looking back I may have never done what did if there wasn't the GFC or met the people I did which goes to show it really is a small world and there really is 6 degrees of separation ( not to be confused with social distancing) .

2 hours in the queue snaking up the street outside the Centrelink office , a further 1.5 hours being interviewed, getting a linking code, instructions on how to set up and link services online and updating ID etc as well as trying to get onto a system that kept timing out hanging or just not accepting your details. There until 4.30 pm when the offices closed and we were about to be kicked out - no technical support on-site as well. The whole process was so lengthy and complex and it took so long to load I gave up with another lady I met and went home to try again closer to midnight. 5 hours later it's around 10 pm and I only managed to complete 80% of the intention to claim application steps before the system hung and timed out again on the final section of steps to upload supporting documents. Exhausted I decided to try again tomorrow morning.

Still not completed this morning - I give up for now. Could not continue trying any longer so tried to lodge some feedback ( no I didn't lodge a complaint and I certainly did not send a compliment!) and the landlord decides to have installation of conduit put in yesterday downstairs and upstairs in the apartment block today so there is a lot of hammering drilling and banging going on all day to around 5 or 5.30 pm. I had to use my ear plugs for the first time. Time to tune out and take a walk to clear my head.

I was planning to take a walk down to the IGA and back about a 40 minute round trip walk down the road but when I reached the sign and a road leading to Greenwich Village / Greenwich Baths ( I didn't quite make it there this time round maybe next time) etc , I made a right turn down this road to see where it led. Fancy living in Greenwich for a year and never having walked down this road which is leads to Greenwich Village - this is Greenwich Proper where I live I don't think it is even anywhere near Greenwich!

So off I walk with a mask on eventhough there are not many people around. There are the occassional walkers up and down this road but no one wearing masks. I am wearing a mask because there are so many trees around and you know what that means for me - allergies. There is something else that may be a threat to me too which I only spotted walking back. The trees are planted so close to the footpath and houses, I walked along the road to avoid walking under and through them.

I heard there was a small IGA supermarket in Greenwich Village but wasn't sure how far or where it was in Greenwich so I asked a local family who advised me it was about a km down from where I had stopped along my walk. It is sure a nice walk full of little interesting things to spot along the way.

After removing a stone in my shoes by sitting on the sandstone outside one of several churches along the road, I continue and spot painted in yellow on a stone wall the following (see photo below). I love it - there is a similar landmark near Edgecliff/ Darling Point with a painting of a lady on a grey concrete wall below what may have been a lamp post which divides the street into 2 -   an upper and lower section , although over the years people have modified or painted over the original painting of the lady.

"THE GREAT WALL OF GREENWICH"

I keep walking and finally arrive at Greenwich Village and there it is a cute little older style but adequately stocked IGA ( independent grocery store or supermarket) which was probably once the local general store. My bus buddy had told me about this little IGA in the middle of nowhere. This is an IGA where the owners knew by name probably most of the locals or regulars and it really had some great grocery products there, as well as being able to tell customers when products ordered would be arriving.  In I went with my mask on as it became rather busy in there about 15 - 20 minutes after I arrived. I spent quite a bit of time looking in there as I knew what I needed but wasn't sure if I would be able to find it in there as I hadn't been able to find these items anywhere else. There still was no toliet paper at all but there was hand sanitiser behind the counter, boxes of tissues with signs advising 1 packet per person  - same with no name paper towel packs and there was quite a few bottles of antiseptic ( yes!) in more then one fragrance and in different sized bottles so I grabbed a small bottle of pine fragrance. I also bought on special a punnet of fresh figs ( quite nice figs and well priced too) , some slices of turkey for sandwiches, a pkt of tropical fruit leather  ( which I could snack on during my walks) and a packet of tapioca ( because it was a cheaper gelling agent option with a longer shelf life) . OK I had spent enough time in there so it was time to queue up on the social distancing marked lines and crosses to pay - tap and I was gone packing my groceries into my own Boomerang bags
( thanks Boomerang Bags for the free hand made bags they are my favourite and I wash and use them every day) .

Time to have a quick look around Greenwich Village before heading home as it was beginning to get dark. The village has not just a supermarket but a small seafood shop, a beuty salon of some type, a school across the road, a pharmacy and of course a bottle shop ( doesn't every village have a bottle shop if there is no pub? Yes no pub in the village) There was no bank I could see in the village or post office but there was a third party ATM inside the IGA right in the back corner if you are desparate for some cash ( you need to be super skinny to get to it and it had a sign over it possibly out of order as I could not see). The area is quite secluded however there is 1 bus that travels along the main highway and turns off down this main road of Greenwich all the way down to Greenwich Baths I assume as I didn't walk that far down where the road begins to slope downhill.

Walking back I look at the apartments and properties for rent and for sale and look them up online. There are a few of them.

I keep walking and notice a few mushrooms growing along strips of grass under the tree trunks. In fact there were clumps of them everywhere under a few trees - some didn't even look like mushrooms until I  touched them with my shoe ( no way I was going to touch them with my hand as I am allergic to wild mushrooms fungus and moulds ) - yep they were real wild magic mushrooms just growing freely but not the edible ones they were definitely poisonous. What village is complete without some wild poisonous magic mushrooms - I wonder if they could cure the Corona virus?
(photos below)

By the time I get home the trucks that were in the car park with the tradesmen who were putting the conduit in had disappear for the day and I though there would be no more drilling banging or hammering inside the apartment block. Good some peace and quiet while I get some things done. Dinner and bed - another day of no tv except for the food channel - I am actually quite sick and tired of being bombarded with Corona virus news coverage - as if there is no other local or world news to report.

Bed time ( after trying to complete my Centrelink application form again - no luck still hanging). I start to fall alseep when suddenly there is banging drilling and hamnering going on right outside my window. I can handle the traffic on the main highway constantly as it gets lighter and even stops during the night but really does construction have to continue throughout the night into the early morning? I think I didn't sleep very well even with my earplugs in - yes ear plugs again all day and all night and I could still hear it all) . Nothing I can do just try to sleep until it finishes. I hope they don't return for a third day and night!  I could see my neighbour wasn't happy, accidently saw him as I was leaving he opened his door when I opened mine to leave for my walk  - in his underwear!!!. Looked like he was trying to have a nap too.

It is now Friday morning ( day 3 of joblessness) sun is out and I tried again to upload my documents to Centrelink. Still no luck another complaint lodged.

Trying to catch up on some sleep now - will skip lunch. Trying to figure out what to do now that I am not at work. There is not much to do everything is gradually shutting down temporarily or going into administration and shutting down permanently.

There was a story of taking out the press buttons used to activate the green walk/red don't walk indicator lights at pedestrian crossings and automating them so you don't have to be in contact with public surfaces. I thought most of tthese were already automated in a loop sequence and pressing the button won't make the indicator lights change any faster. Is this the future? (photo attached in a very crude example I found on my walk)

Where's the button gone?

Friday afternoon and they are still drilling hammering and banging all afternoon!! Inside and outside of the apartment block!!

Sunday 22nd March 2020 - Customer's Corner Thinking Outside The Square Or Box Or Circle

I see someone out there is still reading my unfinished blogs. I am still writing by the way......

Well if the government decides to lockdown tomorrow all non essential services - I will definitely be 1. jobless 2. homeless 3. starving to death due to not being able to receive any welfare payments for 13 weeks
( if I can even apply for it).

I'll cross that bridge tomorrow. Who knows how long the lockdown will be I can't even get toliet paper ( I won't need it if I become jobless homeless and dead will I???).

Update now down to a minimum of 5 weeks wait for welfare payments apparently - I don't think so - there are lines snaking around the blocks of Centrelink offices of hundreds of jobless people waiting to apply for welfare payments due to a crash on the MyGov website. I just posted on Facebook today less then an hour ago how I tried to get onto the website early this morning and could then tried again around 11 am and could not at all. It looked liked it had crashed again yet again! Same on Tuesday when I received an official phone call from work to advise me that I have just been made redundant although a bit vague about if the company will continue to run with only 3 staff members or eventually close temporarily maybe even permanently. I still can't get onto the MyGov website today and i tried to phone every contact number I could find and either was on hold for over 30 minutes or cut off if I did get through to an automated service. Help online was not very useful either so that's 2 full days I have been trying.

Customer's Corner - What is it? This is about often interesting discussions I have at work with customers -  some subjects are serious some theoretic even innovative others just humorous. Here are just some of the discussions I had today. Often customers don't need anything immediately but just have a browse and a chat then return at a later date for purchases.

Indian Tonic Water ( regular type) - list of ingredients - end ingredient reads " contains quinine")

1. A customer comes in and mentions that there seems to be a shortage of Tonic Water as he could not find any for his gin and tonic at either supermarkets in the shopping centre. Why would you want to drink tonic water? It's what you would describe as "rank" or "vile". It is an acquired taste just as gin is therefore if you don't like gin you will probably hate tonic water as well -  it is meant to make the gin taste better which I am unconvinced about ( remember my previous blog where I tried my very first taste of gin and I hated it so the stall attendant was about to put some tonic water with it and advised me that it would make it taste better only for me to stop them before they did so!) Anyway tonic water as you know has a bitter taste to it due to a small amount of quinine ( from the bark of the cinchona tree) added to it. Here is how our discussion became inquisitive. It clicked when I asked him what that stuff they added to tonic water was called - it was quinine ( I knew what it was and what it was used for but still could not pronounced it) and he added how quinine was used as a malaria treatment and I said yes that stuff , I then added wasn't that what the US mentioned as a drug once used to treat malaria and HIV is now a possible treatment for the Corona virus? So people are stockpiling Tonic Water to drink as a possible treatment in the event they contract the Corona virus? Either that or there are a lot of Gin and Tonic addicts ( alcoholics) out there ( also a good way to get through self isolation or lockdown periods and now including people that have suddenly found themselves unemployed)! I went and had a look on my way home at a Woolworths Metro and this is what I saw at Woolworths - normal Tonic Water top shelf empty except for a single bottle left , the Tonic Water Zero Sugar shelf below almost full. I have a theory about why. It has to do with a few things 1. chemical contradictions 2. excessive consumption side effects . In tonic water there is approximately 20 mg of quinine rendering it safe to drink ( on any food or drink packet or label in Australia the quantity of an ingredient in that food or drink product is listed from highest to lowest - quinine was listed as the last ingredient in the list hence the drink contained the lowest quantity of it )  however the amount of quinine used in malaria treatment is approximately 200 mg - yes 10 times more concentrated. The reason why quinine is no longer used as the sole treatment of malaria is because it had several side effects on humans ie toxicology. Now I will talk briefly about what I mean by chemical contradictions. You often hear about how you should not mix taking certain drugs together because they can render them unsafe even fatal or render them ineffective eg mixing caffine and alcohol ( probably not a very good example but it will do) This combination could either kill you not just from overdosing each or render their individual effectiveness as alcohol is a downer and caffine and upper. ie a negative and a positive equals zero.
Another example may be Quinine was also used to cure "restless leg" - I think drinking too much gin with tonic would actually give you "restless leg" rather then curing it!
Back to my theory of why people are avoiding the Indian Tonic Water Sugar Free and hoarding the Indian Tonic Water Original ( at this point I am putting a DISCLAIMER on any information I write on this blog) . Most so called "Zero Sugar drinks or products " may not contain natural sugar but are substituted with artifical or other types of sweeteners such as aspartame , stevia, saccharin . So maybe these artifical sweeteners ( not to say any of the other ingredients could not also interfer with the quinine) could interfere with quinine as a possible treatment  - maybe a tad too far fetched for the ordinary Tonic Water Hoarders - probably these artifical sweeteners just change the taste of the Tonic  Water or they could just have side effects from these artifical sweeteners or whatever else is thrown into Tonic Water Zero Sugar. Conclusion - there sure is/are a lot of ingredients in Indian Tonic Water whether it be Original or Zero Sugar!

Final Conclusion : The amount of Quinine in Indian Tonic Water Original will not cure restless leg(s) and certainly isn't enough to cure Corona virus. If Quinine is actually  found to be a possible cure for the virus,  you would have to drink 10 times the amount of tonic water and possibly die of all the side effects of consuming that much Quinine!

2. Everyone knows how difficult it is to get your hands on toliet paper, tissues, paper towels, disinfectant and now flour, sugar, pasta, rice, canned and bottled products just to name a few basic products and especially Hand Sanitiser but as customers have mention there still is plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables available! ( except for potatos and pumpkin because they last forever are relatively cheap and an easy meal substitute - who doesn't like the occassional huge bowl of hot chips or wedges on it's own for lunch or even dinner?). So I am hearing people everywhere finding ways of making their own hand sanitiser including my suggestion to my manager who went out searching for anything antibacterial for our store by yelling out to her "If you don't find anything can you get a bottle of Vodka? ( in order for something to kill germs it has to have an alcohol concentration of 60% and Vodka has this alcohol concentration however Vodka will not kill Corona virus neither will a higher alcohol concentration of 100% - it will probably rip your skin off overtime due to its drying effect though). My manager's response was "That's a very expensive bottle of hand sanitiser and I'll probably need a bottle of Vodka by the end of today!" There is actually no need to panic over hand sanitiser shortage as there are always alternatives - I prefer washing my hands with foaming soap or using diluted hospital grade disinfectant if there is any 1 part to 20) . So I have found something that might be an alternative to hand sanitiser although it will still dry your skin out from constant use and I will suggest others I have heard. So another customer I spoke to had a son or grandson with a distillery and she suggested to him to start making hand sanitiser so he did and he sold it online and it was a success however it is not as simple as people think and the first hurdle as I previously mention was getting the right alcohol concentration through the distillation process next was trying to get your hands on appropriate containers to fill with the hand sanitiser to sell. This is a problem as the store I work at does not sell any and it is a common customer request.
Whilst I was walking home I overheard someone talking about making hand sanitiser out of fresh aloe vera ( probably mixed with alcohol as well) which makes sense as it is used for skin irritations burns and grazes etc and when you buy it in tubes it always has a slight alcoholic scent to it and the fresh aloe vera leaves when cut leaks a clear sap like clear gel which is sticky but can be rubbed straight onto skin. I was once given a live aloe vera plant many years ago as a gift from a work collegue who was a naturopath and tried to help me relieve my often severe skin allergies. She would tell me to cut/split open the aloe vera "leaves" and scape the clear sap/gel and rub it onto the areas of my skin affected by my allergies and ezcema to soothe/calm it.

Now my suggestion  - cheap perfume however not just any cheap perfume. Back in the good old days real perfume was imported from France and was really expensive. That's  because the perfume was very concentrated and the smell lingered for a very long time and you only needed a tiny amount of it to last all day. This is due to a much lower alcohol content and more "parfume" or fragrance. These days perfume is a lot cheaper to buy because as a cost cutting measure more and more alcohol is used in place of the parfumes or fragrance therefore a lot more is needed to be sprayed or dabbed on in order to sustain the fragrance as most of the fragrance in these cheap perfumes evaporates rapidly due to the high alcohol content (always at or near the top of the ingredients list). So I went to Miniso the Japanese equivalent of the chain Dollar stores on my way home as they had heaps of wet wipes for sale ( although they were not marked antibacterial ones there is probably so much alcohol content in them they would do the same job!) to see if they sold any type of disinfectant. What I saw was heaps of cheap perfume in all forms spray dab ons roller ball etc. After looking at the ingredients list on the back of them and doing a quick Google search of "Can you use perfume as hand sanitiser?" with a yes response, I notice that alcohol is always the top ingredient in all perfumes Miniso sold. I think the best perfume I found to use as a hand sanitiser was the marvel series men's non aerosol body mist/spray. After sniffing the testers the scents were quite suitable to male and female and because it was in a small sized plastic non aerosol spray form and slightly more diluted then a perfume in bottles, it was suitable to use as a spray hand sanitiser without being too sticky. Now you can kill germs or bacteria and smell nice at the same time! There are perfume sprays to avoid and they are room sprays which are also suitable as linen water - due to the fact that these aren't usually alcohol based ( as not to stain or damage fabrics and to ensure the fragrance won't evaporate instantly but linger in the air or on fabrics for a longer period of time)  but water based with the fragrances from the by product of essential oils therefore rendering them useless as antibacterial hand sanitisers.

3. One of my work collegues walks in with her boyfriend to purchase a scale and they are holding hands and all over each other - typical Gen Y not setting a good example by disregarding the social distancing rules. Another couple comes in and although they were not as close to each other,  they were debating what type of frypan to purchase.  I asked them what they were going to cook with it and they said eggs but they needed an induction fry pan so I showed them the single egg mini blini pan before showing them a 20 cm pyrostone fry pan which could easily cook 2 eggs in . Strangely they decided to purchase 2 of the 20 cm Pyrostone frypans - 1 for each egg so I asked them whether they were social distancing their eggs in their fry pans - initially they didn't get my joke then it clicked and thought it was funny.

4. I mentioned previously how I wear a mask all year round due to allergies and not just to protect me from the corona virus. Fact is masks don't actually protect you from the Corona virus fully. Plain surgical masks are designed to protect others around you if you cough or sneeze containing your germs from passing onto others. Some masks are designed to block dust, chemicals, smoke, pollen or other fine allergens depending on what type they are. Then there is the problem of contaminated mask disposal. I mentioned to a customer today who happened to be a nurse that I thought everyone should wear a mask especially if you are out and about near other people ( regardless of whether you have the Corona virus or not) to prevent you giving it to anyone else rather then preventing you from catching it. Theoretically this should at least slow down if not stop the corona virus however there is a catch - you only have about 40 minutes protection from wearing a mask because as soon as the moisture from your breath starts to saturate the lining of your masks , it is no longer effective in preventing the spread of the virus. The customer made a comment of at least it will give you enough protection time for commuting on public transport to and from essential services eg work, grocery shopping, pharmacy to pick up perscriptions, dentist and doctor appointments or banking. We do have one other problem and that is getting enough supply of masks and other medical supplies for  people and in particular hospitals who desperately need them It was sad to hear that there is even theft of hospital supplies by patients and visitors apparently. To combat this problem Australia is beginning to follow in the US' footsteps and approaching companies such as 3 D printing companies to develop ways to produce the much needed masks and other medical supplies such as respirator parts much like the way distillers of gin are now switching over to produce alcohol to produce handsanitiser to try and combat the shortage. As they said in the Bionic Man and the Bionic Woman tv series ( remember Steve Austin & Jamie Summers?) "We have the technology" - and yes we certainly do. We just need funding for research and development/ production. It's probably called yet another "stimulus package" from our government.

Conclusion : I mentioned the shortage of Indian tonic water, if gin distilleries are converting to distilling alcohol for hand sanitiser production instead of gin - wouldn't that also lead to a shortage of certain types of gin as well - no one has mention that to me yet? Maybe it takes a bit more time for people to stop hoarding  toliet paper and start hoarding gin - alcohol does kill the brain cells but only slowly!

Postscript : Alcohol purchase limits per customer are now enforced due to higher demand then normal outstripping supply. People have started posting tutorials online particularly on Tiktok on how to make your own masks or making and donating masks to hospitals and other medical organisations to keep up with demand resulting from a shortage of masks. Tutorials include sew and non sew masks. Some countries have even made mask wearing compulsory for everyone.

5. My final rant and it is a really important one to all those hoarders stockpiling supermarket products ( this one has nothing to do with toliet paper or lack of by the way or does it have to do with empty shelves but there is still plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables) I had an audience of customers for this rant and a couple agreed that this was a breach of product safety. It's about this crazy no refund no exchange and even no return policy supermarkets like Woolworths and Coles have implemented due to the Corona virus. Buyer beware - this was not covered under product safety recall when I lodged my complaint to Fair trade ( unless other customers who purchased the same food product complain) . I posted this on Facebook a few days ago with photos.

"This has got to be a new low from Woolworths today. Take note everyone Here's my story :

How' this from woolworths. I purchased a ready made pizza dough from Woolworths Metro and tried to call them twice but there was no answer so I rang the Woolworths customer service # to lodge my complaint. The pizza dough I purchased was in a sealed   opague bag with an expiry date of 30th March on it. When I opened it up and tipped it out onto a piece of baking paper straight off the roll I noticed it had a black swirl of something in it - wasn't sure if it was grease from the factory or mould  whatever it was I wasn't going to eat it. So I asked for a refund or exchange and was put on hold forever. When the customer service officer returned she said Woolworths had a new no refund no exchange policy  on items purchased that just came into effect on 19th March due to the Corona virus - how convenient I just had advised them that I made the purchase on the 18th March and my complaint had nothing to do with the Corona virus - I could have gotten food poisoning or become sick . Chucking the product ( packaging already in bin which they asked me if I still had,  of course I didn't!) and they won't get away with this one!
I took photos which I will attach. You can see the black specks in the wet pizza dough and a line of black through it. Gross! I could name the brand but I think I could be sued for that so won't but I will be lodging yet another complaint to Fair Trading!!!!!"

Update After work I decided to go past Chatswood Woolworth Metro but not go into it. Peeping through the double emergency exit glass doors I see in the fridge that the product was still there and that it had not been recalled - it looked like nobody wanted to buy it. By Tuesday I received a response by phone from The Department of Fair Trading in regards to my above complaint who explained to me that they could only request a refund to me - big deal it was only $2! and that a company cannot recall a product based on a single complaint. That's just stupid - what if others are not so lucky and eat the product and become sick. How do I know if there have been others who have experienced the same product contamination but just didn't lodge a complaint. I was advised by Fair Trading that I should have kept the product and returned it to where I purchased it - the wrapper was already in the bin and there was no way I was going to hold onto raw pizza dough until I could return it - it would have not been until the following day - I just arrived home and making dinner, as if i would travel all the way back that night to return it! It was not really the $2 refund i wanted - it was more the principle as I didn"t want another needle in the strawberries incident to occur especially with the Corona pandemic. Just because there is a Corona virus it does not mean thst product safety should be ignored - Product safety should be priority in any situation or circumstances.

End of my rant now for some other older customer humour stories.

1. A customer comes in looking for a specific type of cork remover for wine bottles. Instead of the traditional cork ( screw) remover which drills a hole in the cork and destroys it especially older corks which crumble and fall apart this specific cork remover has 2 prongs on either side which grips the corks on either side to be pulled out like a normal cork screw except keeping the cork intact. It is called an Ah- So ( not an arsehole) . I asked the customer I wonder why it was called that. The customer replied "Probably a Chinese man invented it.!"My response was ( in my very badly mixed Chinese possibly Japanese accent " Ah Saw!" ( which I think was meant to be a Chinese mispronounced and sounds like "I see") - Get it? Customer had a chuckle after I said that .

2. At the beginning of the Corona outbreak a customer was paying for something at the counter and was making a joke about where the corona virus originated from ie Wuhan and I responded "I'm Chinese and I have never heard or  been to Wuhan - I don't even know where it is" My manager adds "Now you do and so does everyone else!" The customer then adds " I think i just received a parcel and I think it's from wuhan" I added "Are you sure it's for you?"
( I hope it is not a parcel carrying Coron Vurus - if you remember the letters containing Anthrax you will understand what I mean and the latest update is cardboard boxes from China can carry Corona virus)

I am trying to stay positive by writing now that I am unemployed.

Friday 20th March 2020 - I am About To Be Just One Of Thousands Of People To Lose My Job

Thanks to whoever has been reading this blog of mine but I haven't quite finished it and abandoned it for my next blog which is a little more interesting and even a little entertaining.

I don't have any places of interest or events to write about at the moment as almost all of the events and places of interest I had planned to visit have been cancelled due to the Corona virus therefore I am going to write about the subjects that have affected not just me but thousands of other people around the world due to the Corona virus. Subjects which some countries have dealt with better then others.

I just found something to blog about and it is not related to the Corona virus! I mentioned previously that almost all of the events and places of interest I had planned to visit have been cancelled however that does not stop events and places of interests from going virtual - yes virtual ie online so if you can't be somewhere physically you can still see it online whether it is live streamed or a virtual tour of a museum or art gallery for example.  Now my virtual touring skills online are not that great however I just tried one and it was pretty good once I got the hang of moving through it. I had planned to see the fashion exhibition Collecting Comme at the NGV in Melbourne which is on from October 2019 to July 2020 ( goodness knows how I missed that exhibition last year as I was down in Melbourne a lot in Nov 19 - possibly far too busy and tired) however since a decision was made to close the NGV recently, the exhibition has been put online for everyone to see - just go to the NGV website and you will find the link to the virtual tour. So if you love fashion you will like this virtual tour of garments. NGV temporarily closed until around mid April 2020 according to their website including the Federation Square (Ian Potter Centre)  location.

OK now I would like to talk about some more serious subjects effecting people as a result of the Corona virus and how stupid YES STUPID the Australian government is in preparing and dealing with it.

Australia has always been seen as THE LUCKY COUNTRY and yes it is and could always be. We are isolated from the rest of the world and in theory can be a self sufficient/reliant country with an abundance of natural resources if used efficiently and effectively. This is what I thought Australia being the lucky country meant until a bus buddy of mine corrected me and advised me that Australia was not known as the lucky country for that reason but in fact Australia is a lucky country because it doesn't matter how much the Australian government wastes our resources or how many times the Australian governments stuff up, Australia still manages to keep it's head above water surviving and coming out "trump(s)" ( and I don't mean like the attempted impeachment of Donald Trump) - rising like a Phoenix time after time.

Australia is also known as the Clever Country and yes we can be with early adoption of technology and innovations however with no thanks to the Australian Government. So how much of Australia's resources has the Government actually squandered over the centuries and how many times have the government(s) stuffed up? Well they sure have stuffed up again during this so called Corona virus pandemic. The government has stuffed up so badly it is heading towards a long term downward economic spiral - not just a recession but a depression - a cat can only have 9 lives and the Australian government has now used up all of them. I don't believe Australia will be able to rise like a Phoenix again this time round.

So why am I so pessimistic?

It brings me back to the subject of my blog - I am about to lose my job just like thousand of other Australians are however with no safety net.

The Government sure has not thought through their so called stimulus plan(s) very well. If they had, I would not be in a situation where I would be better off with the Corona virus then not catching it ( I don't really want it but I definitely would be better off financially if I had it)

In some countries I believe Canada would be a good example there is a compulsory employment fund you have to contribute part of your wages into so you have backup funds in the event you are made redundant ( I am unsure if this also covers you in the event you become injured or sick and are unable to work - there is probably some other insurance that will cover you for that). This would theoretically take pressure of the country's government's social insurance ( or what Australians call the dole - don't ask me about the origins of this word  I may have been born in Australian but I'm not that Australian) or welfare payment system. I know when I was on my working holiday in Canada decades ago I contributed into it but when I left the country asked for a refund as I would not be needing to use it. The problem with this system is that there will always be a number of people who will never work and therefore will never have any unemployment funds saved up therefore there still needs to be a government welfare system along with other social support services.

In comparison Australia does not have any type of formal umemployment contribution fund instead emphasis is on a compulory employer contribution into either a default or employee chosen superannuation or retirement fund which is useless during a worldwide disaster or pandemic and where funds usually can't be accessed until after the retirement age of around 65 years of age. I say useless because most superannuation funds perform so badly that if I opened a normal high interest earning retirement savings account or what we call an old fashioned term deposit ( not as popular now) with the same conditions or even better more flexible conditions of not accessing my funds until after retirement age and starting with a fixed % of contributions as soon as I started working as a junior casual ( minimum age you can start work in Australia is 14 years and 9 months with strict working conditions) , I would have accumulated much more then I currently have in my industry superannuation or retirement fund which is whittled away by attached insurances that you may not even want and administration fees - loads of them! Even the insurances attached to your super are useless unless you do get sick or injured ( it is called permanent disability insurance) - it does not cover you for other situations such as redundancy.

Which leads me to return to why I would be better off with the Corona virus then not catching it. The Government of Australia has put in a stimulus package to help small businesses during this pandemic however it does not assist all small businesses just some such as the hospitality industry there it won't assist the retail industry or it's staff.

As you probably know I work in retail and quite like my job after decades in bookkeeping admin payroll HR and accounting roles. I have been a casual for many years now which is where the problem lies as there is not really a lot of assistance in the stimulus package in terms of financial assistance to casuals workers who are not entitled to any  sick/ personal leave or annual leave that full and part time employees are entitled to (pro rata 10 days personal/sick leave 20 days annual leave both which can be accumulated over the years subject to company's discretion with some companies also offering leave loading on top of annual leave and days in lieu). Therefore when I am made redundant as a casual during this pandemic I have no financial support from the company or immediate umemployment financial support  from the government. I can apply for the dole however by the time I go through the very long and complex application process there is no garantee I will qualify to receive it, it will take months to get my first payment and there are all these ridiculous conditions otherwise you will be cut off from payments before you even receive your first payment ( it took over 3 months the last time I went on unemployment benefits) . I haven't been on umemployment payments for probably decades ( but I remember it very clearly) and I try to avoid applying for it like the plague as it is the most humiliating process even when the government department ( known as Human Services is at fault and makes a mistake leaving you without financial support ( yes I have experienced this first hand and they did not even apologise for their mistakes)..The staff in that department are horrible and have no idea what they are doing. If you do get the Corona virus or are advised to self isolate ( quarantine) , it stipulates in the stimulus package that it will take 13 weeks before you even receive your first payment - when I saw this on a newsthread I made a comment "13 weeks to get a payment frtom Centrelink - I'll be dead from starvation before then if I contracted the Corona virus or had to self isolate/ quarantine!" If I contracted the Corona virus but not necessarily self isolation I do have one form of financial assistance however with a 30 waiting period and with conditions - 30 days I will be dead before I get my first payment from that as well! So now I will explain how I am better off contracting the Corona virus and how stupid the Australian government is.

There is a type of insurance not many people in Australia know about or bother about particularly those in full time part time or certain contract types employment as they are covered by their annual or personal/sick leave which they can use if they do become sick or injured and can't work - 30 days a year total leave is a good amount of time to have banked up for  emergency financial support. If you need more time off then that you can apply for the dole for further financial support from the government until you get back on your feet or use your permanent disability insurance from your super or if you have taken out life insurance use that. I took out a type of insurance called income protection insurance and have been contibuting into this type insurance for over a decade now however have never made a claim from it. There are conditions on this insurance which stipulates that the insurance us not transferable to other companies that offer the same type of insurance, wait period is 30 days and it only covers 70% of your income amongst other rediculous conditions therefore I check that I was covered in the event that I did contract the Corona virus otherwise it will be bye bye HCF which is where I also have my compulsory private hea lth insurance with. So you may think great I am covered financially during this pandemic as a casual worker however there is one major condition of this type of insurance- income protection insurance DOES NOT COVER REDUNDANCY ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A CASUAL EMPLOYEE IT ONLY COVERS A PORTION OF YOUR INCOME IF YOU BECOME INJURED OR SICK. I did some further research and found that there was one insurance company that does cover redundancy HOWEVER there were a few conditions 1. you can't transfer your current income protection insurance no matter how long you have had it  2. There is a  30 day waiting period minimum and 3. you can only take this redundancy insurance out on top of your income protection insurance if you are a permanent part time or full time employee hence I don't qualify. I have been a casual employee with the current company for over 5 years and have requested to become a permanent part time employee to no avail. The government a few years back was going to pass a condition of employment where an employee who has been a casual for the same employer for 12 months could request to become a permanent employee however this was not made compulsory just at the descretion of an employer. If this condition of employment was made compulsory I would not be in this situation along with other casual employees. If the australian government was smart they would have made this condition of employment compulsory and there would be less financial strain on both human services and financial stress on casual employees made redundant or had shifts cut. The only smart thing the government implemented on taking out income protection insurance was it is a tax deduction. Maybe if the government put more effort into encouraging income protection insurance they would not have to have such a large financial stimulus package. There is only so much stimulus a country's government can afford and it has to be used effectively and efficiently. It can not be wasted resources.
There are a few other points I would like to make about how stupid the Australian Government is.

1. We have had a terrible 6 months in Australia - floods , bushfires and now the Corona virus resulting in the downturn of the economy. Athough we survived the floods and the bush fires there are still thousands of people that are still waiting for assistance - where is the financial support promised and why does it take so long to reach people? Does the government have the funds? I mean they have already wasted a lot of funds on previous failed schemes such as the pink bats insulation scheme, the water licence buying scheme and what about the installation or roll out of the NBN - all total waste of government resources which could have been used now.

2. Then there are the total waste of resources at the State level such as payroll tax - having worked in payroll I never understood why the larger the payroll a company has and the more employees it hired the more payroll tax had to be paid. Why do we have a payroll tax - the simulus packaged included a reduction in payroll tax for companies. How is it going to help now - it is too l ate people have already lost their jobs. Why not just abolish payroll tax? Surely this is logical that by abolishing payroll tax it will encourage companies to retain and recruit more staff - isn't part of a strong economy to have low unemployment rates? Don't just save my job but save everyone elses under threat now! Not good enough just to target apprentices. I never did and never will buy into the reason we have payroll tax is to fund hospitals schools and roads for example. Well hello your hospitals are under enormous strain all the time, your roads and transport infrastructure is totally shit and even your schools are nowhere on par with others around the world. No amount of funds will ever fix any of the governments way over budget and hugely delayed completion of projects - like the Metroline and Lightrail as examples.

3. I am all for immigration and a very diverse multicultural society within Australia however I really believe Australia has 2 problems 1. an overly heavily reliance on Mainland Chinese imports to survive and 2. allowing too many Mainland Chinese to immigrate into Australia and I suspect through loopholes in the immigration system and financial bribes or so called "investments" whether they be legal or illegal. The whole Corona virus would not have spread to Australia or around the world if we had tighter immigration policies in regards to the number allowed of Mainland Chinese entering Australia .Only China is to blame for the pandemic as this is where it originated. Who knows what resources China will attack next in Australia. Immigration should be open to all nationalities not just Mainland Chinese. Australia is far too top heavy with Mainland Chinese to the extent that one day Australia will be owned by Mainland China and Australians will no long have control of their own country. Immigration needs to be more open and  balance to allow all countries around the world an opportunity to immigrate to Australia. Why do you think Australia now has a problem with essential supplies during this Corona virus pandemic? It's because we are allowing The Mainland Chinese a so called "legal" avenue to send huge amounts of our resources back to Mainland China to save their country before ours. Yes there is actually articles written about this. If Australia went to war we would not have a chance to defend ourselves becasuse Mainland China secretly owns at least 2 of our airstrips in 2 different states. Foreign countries should not be allowed ownership of any of Australia's resources or assets. I don't believe the Australian government or anyone know how much of Australia is actually Australian owned in terms of land for example. I do not want to be forced to becoming a citizen of China. If you look at the balance of trade agreements between Australia and China , China is taking a lot more from Australia then giving back which is wrong - you can see this with the baby formula and milk powder situation leaving Australians without. Now it's the same with essentials such as hand sanitizer, masks, disinfectant, tissues,  even toliet paper, feminine hygiene products and nappies. I hate how China is allowed to export all of our essential emergency supplies and allowed to import back to us their faulty poor quality supplies. This is just wrong. The government needs to tighten up restrictions on what can can be exported to china and not to just export to china to decrease Australia's reliance on one country. Australia does not need China - China needs Australia more. Australia can rely on other countries for trade agreements. Again I emphasis the importance in a balance of trade with the rest of the world. Australia is also capable of being more self sufficient referring back to it being the lucky country.

4. The Australian government should be encouraging people to buy Australian made products and australian owned products instead of allowing companies to move their operations offshore. This will create and keep jobs in Australia as well as ensure the supply of quality and quantity of services and products as needed therefore not having to rely as much on overseas goods and services as providers. The whole international trade agreements, taxes, duties and tariffs have to reviewed and implemented. The government needs to provide more incentives to Australian companies. Why people buy overseas products instead of buying the equivalent  locally produced products is all about price. It is often cheaper to buy the overseas product. I try to buy Australian produce whenever posdible altbough it maybe a little more e pensive I know that I will be getting a quality product as well as assisting the australian economy.

Friday 13th March 2020 - HIA Home Show & ( Bonus!) The Mind Body Spirit Festival @ ICC Darling Harbour

I finally got out of bed and went to The HIA Homeshow @ the ICC Darling Harbour. Rating 5/10 Boring! I don't think this will be an exhibition I will be attending again.

I only went to look at the tiny houses but did have a look at a few other stands - light features custom made from real deer antlers, tables and presentation boards made from recycled railway sleepers and the Woll Titan cookware stand. There wasn't much to see really. The hall was half empty - no queues no crowds - I hope Saturday will be better.

Tiny House #  1 - I like the layout of this tiny house however it was a bit squishy to get to the walk in wardrobe and ensuite in the main downstairs bedroom. I didn't like the low overhead and location of the ladder to the loft which I probably would not need except for storage or a study area as it would be difficult to get a bed or anything large or heavy up there even with the adequate overhead height in the loft.

Tiny House # 2 - this was not a very nice tiny house at all. I did not like (and did not even attempt to climb up to the loft) the ladder location to the loft which was the only sleeping area as there would not been enough room for a fold out bed in the dining/lounge area downstairs. The toilet looks very close to the kitchen area which I did not like either. As you walk into the kitchen area you can see the toliet next to the fridge! Cheap finishes except for maybe the bathroom.

I liked the look of the houses from this company however I don't think they fell into the category of tiny houses and did not have any display houses to walk into to have a look at.

Tiny house #3 - It did not look very appealing from the outside as it looked as if the budget ran out and half the house is incomplete. On the inside the first thing I noticed was the kitchen and bathroom area. The biggest problem was the very tiny and squishy bathroom. The shower door was so close to the toliet seat I could not fully open it to get into the shower which is a big problem. The sink is also very close to the toliet and shower. The kitchen is adequate however the cavity for the microwave or was that suppose to be an oven in that space? also looked incomplete and the materials used looked rather cheap as well - perhaps another budget issue. There was one veey nice touch to this split level tiny house that neither of the other 2 had and that was an amazing staircase to the loft bedroom. The loft clearance was a little lower  but adequate however the nice window next to the bed was a very nice touch where other loft areas did not include.

This single storey house made by Tafe students was beautiful although it did not qualify as a tiny house it was the most beautiful house on display, it was a 2 bedroom house with a nice sized central lounge area, L shaped kitchen and 1 bathroom.

Tiny house # 4 - I loved the interior of this tiny house in the way it was laid out and very spacious however where is the kitchen? There was a sink but no stove top or refridgerator or oven. Also unsuitable as a tiny house as there are too many windows and doors and it is all wooden therefore unsuitable except as a pool house in the backyard or studio in a backyard but not a tiny house.

As I walked from aisle to aisle , I reached an entrance to an adjoining hall thinking it was a continuation of the HIA Homeshow. I spot a sign which I misread as Media or Mediation Room which was in fact pointing to the Meditation Room before realising it was actually the free Mind Body Spirit Festival.

No crowds today!

Being my very first visit to The Mind Body Spirit Festival, I did not know what to expect. I actually like the festival - I spent more time looking at everything in this hall then I did at the HIA Homeshow. Although not my thing I would rate it at least a 6/10. There were some really interesting stands like the giant Teepee where you could enjoy a sound bath in ( basically drums) for $10. No I did not try this. I have been inside enough Teepees overseas and I could hear the drums from outside the Teepee.

Then there was the rather large area dedicated to tarot readers and readings - it was huge! No I didn't try this either - I didn't even ask how much a tarot reading cost.

Onto trying some German barefoot shoes. So nice and comfy but at $150 - $250 a pair I think I will give it some research before purchasing a pair!

There were crystals galore as well as books, hemp, weird teas and hemp drinks, juicers, drink bottles, ecofriendly products, jewellery, tie dye clothing, even wine( I think organic)  , crepes, fry pans ( ceramic), turmeric powders, nougat, even yoghart!

I picked up some free iron supplement samples made in Germany before an attempted Happy Science member tried to draw me in to their "cult" which I quickly walked away frtom as they actually spooked me.

How about getting your Aura photographed for $55? Gee if you got in early enough in your particular occupation you could have had it done and displayed at Carriageworks in the art installation currently showing by Kate Mitchell for free! ( refer my previous blog).

There were various bodies laying on tables wrapped in blankets in various states of "consciousness" - had they been hypnotized? They looked so relaxed and asleep that they looked dead!

I look at my watch and it is 6 pm almost yet there are quite a few people hanging around. I certainly am not - time to go home.

Groceries on my way home - no surprise there is not much left on the supermarket shelves of Woolworths Metro Chatswood again - no wipes no toliet paper no disinfectant no tissues no flour no pasta no handwash probably no laundry sanitiser or laundry  detergent as well and the freezer section is looking half full as well.

I grab whatever pizza is left a few white nectarines, a small bottle of water and a block of non lactose cheese. I was going to get a loaf of bread and corn chips but those can wait until tomorrow.

Home - another adventure tomorrow perhaps?!

Just looked at the weather forecast which is rain and have decided to postpone my next adventure especially the prebooked ferry ride from Olympic Park Wharf to Cockatoo Island for the opening day of the Sydney 2020 Bienale Nirin as it is an outdoor event.

There won't be anything for me to blog about soon as events after events are cancelled due to the Corona virus. At least 2 major annual events in Sydney have been cancelled VIVID and The Royal Easter Show along with Melbourne's Good Food Month being postponed which means that I may not be going down to Melbourne this Friday for Take The Cake although I have been advised by the NGV by email that it is still on - there are no trains going directly from Sydney to Melbourne in both directions therefore I can only fly down and I hate flying!
