Sunday 27th August 2017 - Sweet Expo @ Southee Pavilion Olympic Park

I tried to wake up early to get out to Olympic Park for this event but slept in. It is such a hike to get out there just to see an event. Most events have now returned to the ICC at Darling Harbour however this event has been left behind.

So left behind is this event that it is no longer run by the same organisation that ran it in previous years nor is it called "The Cake Bake & Sweet Show". It is now called the "Sweet Expo".

Still a full 2 day event running 9 am - 4.30 pm on both days however whether or not it will still be an annual event in multiple cities around Australia after this year's event is another story. Will I be disappointed this year????

On my way to the event on the train but I won't arrive until after 11 am. TBC...........

Even arriving a little after 11 am the line to enter the Sweet Expo was around the corner with many people still to purchase a ticket at the entrance.

First thing I do is grab 3 chocolates which were free from mHAWKr (one of which tasted very off and I hope I don't get sick from it - it tasted like mould or blue cheese). I then registered my details - goodness knows for what as everyone else was doing it on the tablets provided.

I then pushed my way through the crowds around the Southee Complex to see what stalls and products were present. It's the same old stuff - Cake Decorating Solutions had a rather large stall but were calling themselves BakenCake or something like that instead of Cake Decorating Solutions - staff all wore their Cake Decorating Solutions logoed uniforms. There was the chocolate tea and the unicorn cheese and rainbow bagels and various chocolate stalls that were also present at the Chocolate Festival recently. The same sweet and savoury food trucks and stalls that were present at the Chocolate Festival as well. Then there was the cake decorating competition which was a lot smaller then the ones at previous Cake Bake snd Sweet Shows because there was no Loyale as a sponsor. However the display walls of themed celebrations was more prominent in the background behind the cake decorating competition display.

I stayed until about 3.30 pm and watched a few cake decorating demonstrations to pick up a few techniques and purchased something savoury to eat - a spicy chicken burrito for $14 as well as purchase some products including a packet of red chocit - pre coloured modelling chocolate from BakenCake for $8 . I purchased a rainbow coloured bagel without the unicorn cream cheese as it had sold out yet again before 3 pm for $5 and a Sweet Magazine show bag for $10. The Sweet Magazine website had gone into complete meltdown so I could not even plan my day let alone try to subscribe to the magazine all day online therefore in the end the Sweet Magazine stand was selling its showbags for $10 each cash only instead of giving them away free with each online magazine subscription. I thought they would run out of showbags before the end of the day but there were still a few left by the time I purchased mine around 3pm. The mHawkr stall was giving the back issues of Sweet magazines away for free from around 2.30 pm and most people managed to get 2 of the 4 magazines being given away for free, some were lucky to grab all 4 free Sweet Magazines before the stall packed up way before the closing time of 4.30 pm - quite a few stalls closed way before closing time. I ducked out quickly to the ATM to get some cash to purchase a Sweet Magazine showbag as they only accepted cash because their system was down. Only able to get 2 of the 4 free Sweet Magazines from the mHawkr stand, I negotiated to get 2 other different Sweet Magazines from the Sweet Magazine stand as well as heaps of extra sample packets of cranberries and vanilla paste (which I use a lot of) as substitutes for what was in my showbag. Good thing I was able to negotiate and swap things I received in the show bag as I don't touch energy drinks and didn't want double ups of the 2 Sweet magazines I had already received for free. I had to ask for a handwritten tax invoice/receipt to be written out using my pen and on the back of an old bank receipt I had as they had no pen or paper or any facilities to print one out for me due to their system being down all day.

Rating : 6/10 - too many people, wrong venue for event as there was no floor plan and demonstation areas and stalls looked like they had been haphazardly put together. Same stalls not much new. Sweet Magazine total website melt down - could not subscribe to magazine nor access what was on at the show hence I could not plan my day and what to see - I was just blindly walking around the event. Lack of seating I am sitting on thr part carpeted part cement floor blogging. Was it worth my $24 I paid for just general entry into the show? No.

I left the Sweet Show around 3.30 pm and did not end up leaving earlier and going to the Mad About Modernism event on at the same time out at Rose Siedler House near Turramurra since there did not seem to be a shuttle bus running from the station and due to trackwork between Gordon and beyond. It would have taken me forever to get from Lidcombe to that event. There was a note that the house also had restricted access today due to the talks going on which tickets were all sold out for - even being a member would not have given me priority access. There is always next year or another open house event out there.

Saturday 26th August 2017 - Change of Plans For This Weekend

I had intended to go on a day trip to the snow afterwork on Friday but decided to delay it as I had the Sweet Expo to attend this Sunday and the Mad About Modernism event.

Instead on Saturday I took the bus quite early when the shops had just opened first to recharge my Opal Card then onto the Samsung concession to preorder the new Samsung Note 8. Unfortunately the staff could not quite access their system and asked me if I could return in 20 minutes. I said no I couldn't however I could return at the end of the day in the late afternoon. If I made it before 6 pm back to the Samsung concession then I could still make a preorder.

Next stop was to hop on a train to Carriageworks Markets again. There I spent about 2 - 3 hours buying my usual loaf of unsliced sourdough spelt linseed and soy was my choice this time round, my usual block of cheese which I chose the smoked variety this time round, my usual 100g of dried Chinese dates and my usual paper bag of mandarins with their stems and leaves still attached. In addition this time round after walking up and down the market stalls, I stopped for quite a few minutes after purchasing my loaf of sourdough to contemplate whether I should also purchase a sweet pastry or dessert. I usually have a cake or sweet pastry from Flour and Stone and was thinking of the pastashio and rose slice of cake this time round but it didn't look as appealing as it did previously therefore purchased a pastashio, pear and rhubarb croissant from Shepherds Breads where I had purchased my sourdough loaf. I did consider the nutella or caramel bombs which looked delicious but I did not want to risk it with my lactose intolerance. Sorry no photo of my purchases - in my mouth and in my stomach before I can even photograph them! In addition I purchased some other vegetables.

Around 12 noon it was time for me to leave Carriageworks Markets and walk back to Redfern Station to catch the train to Town Hall Station and walk to catch the 324 or 325 bus to Walsh Bay in time for a Beginner Lyrical Jazz Class @ SDC from 1 pm - 2.30 pm. I made it just in time for the bus from Town Hall to Walsh Bay.

Excellent class - a good workout but not too difficult with a substitute teacher. I was a little uncoordinated with the across the floor exercises as I haven't been to a Lyrical Jazz class for quite a while now but soon became used to it.

After class it was back on the bus from Walsh Bay to Town Hall and onto another bus to Chatswood where I returned to the Samsung concession to preorder my Note 8. I was initially advised that only a deposit was required however when I arrived full payment was required. With my last Note ie the Note 7 (exploding phone) I only had to leave my details and a deposit but it took forever to get it on a pre order and then I had to return it in the end. This time if it fails to arrive ontime at the Samsung store I will be demanding a discount. I made it clear to staff that I will not tolerate it this time round as I have so much on during September. They cannot sell my phone as I have paid for it in full in advance.

After dealing with Samsung I had to finish my shopping first at Aldi then at Coles via the STA to inquire about my travel insurance and air fares to Vancouver via HK.

End of day and it is around 6 pm. Time to get home on the bus with all my purchases and have a shower then to bed early for another day of adventures tomorrow!

Totally exhausted!!!!!

Tuesday 22nd August 2017 - Jazz Express Class @ SDC & Preview of What's On @ the MCA

Jam packed day today.

I was too lazy to do the 11 am - 12.30 pm Beginner Contemporary dance class at SDC today but did do the Jazz Express class from 12.30 pm - 1.30 pm today.

After watching the last 15 minutes or so of the Beginner Contemporary class I made a note in my diary to do it in 2 weeks time to see if I liked it. It did not look like a beginner class but then again I have never done a Contemporary class only Lyrical and it was always towards an elementary level class which was a lot more "brutal". Lots of floorwork tends to be involved in both Lyrical and Contemporary dance classes. Note to self - Don't forget to pack the knee pads for class again!

Express Jazz is called this for a reason. An intensive hour long class with lots of stretching and warming up before a dance routine put together really quickly rather then sections of a dance routine practised to different pieces of music eliminating the overthinking of a dance routine spread over 1.5 hours.

Easy class but very a cardio workout due to shorter period of class time.

Quick shower and off to the MCA.

TBC.

I am so behind in my blogging.

My whole intention of visiting the MCA was solely to see the Jenny Watson exhibition.

After cloaking my backpack, I asked what was on today and was lucky to get a sneak peep of 2 new exhibitions not opening to the public until tomorrow. Ah the perks of being a MCA member!

Between 11 am and 3 pm today the new Primavera Young Australian Artists and the Hilarie Mais exhibitions were open to a members only preview before opening to the general public. I managed to arrive just in time to view both exhibitions before I went to the 3rd floor to see the Jenny Watson exhibition.

Too many photos of Jenny Watson exhibition may upload a youtube video later. At the top of this blog is a few of my favourites.
