Saturday 14th July 2018 - Happy Bastille Day In Sydney!

My day started off with paying the bills followed by breakfast of a toasted cheese shallots mixed herbs and mushrooms. My favourite. Yum!

Next a bus to Lang Park and a walk through The Rocks where day 3 of the 4 day BBR Festival is just setting up for the day.

A quick few photos of the Christmas In July Markets before walking down to Walsh Bay Wharf 4 Precinct where The Sydney Dance Company studios are located to attend Louie George's  Beginner Jazz class from 10 am - 11.30 am this morning.

Not long now until the Sydney Dance Company moves to its new temporary dance studios on August 13th 2018 in Broadway where it will remain until vital renovations of the wharf precinct are complete which may take upto 2 years.

I haven't been to one of Louie Georges classes for a long time therefore have forgotten how aerobic his classes are. Today was a very cold morning and studio 4 is freezing so Louie turns on the heaters. He advised us that it is around 10 degrees and thanks us for coming to class but by early afternoon the sun is fully out, it is around 17 degrees and we were getting a little warm in the studio during warm up so heaters off.

We start with a run of several laps around the studio both a clockwise then in an anti clockwise direction. Repeating after several laps of sideway steps also in both a clockwise and anti clockwise direction. Then there were the on the spot exercises eg jogging jumping arm movements etc . This was then followed by stretching at the barre but not leg up on barre ballet  style thank goodness. Then stretching on the floor standing up eg head and neck side to side up and down, then flat back arm stretches hip rotations chest isolations and spins in both directions etc etc followed by planks sit ups etc before doing some across the floor exercises on both sides. Then the last 40 minutes or so Louie does a choreography. I like going to his classes no pressure lots of fun and he likes to explain each movement. It is a very balanced class. Still haven't been able to make it to one of his Lyrical Jazz classes though. Unfortunately his has advised us that some of his classes during the week have been cancelled and those still scheduled have been shortened to 1 hour instead of the usual 1 and a half hours. He said that with the move there will be a few changes and for us to check class timetables online so we can plan ahead. This is going to make getting to a class even more challenging as Tuesday Beginner Contemporary and Jazz Express classes have already been cancelled. Some Jazz classes in the evening have been shortened already and start earlier. Rating 8/10 my recommended place to get a tasty take away sweet or savoury treat or even a non fancy restaurant lighter sit down meal. Very tasty French food where every bite is savoured.

After my class I went for a other walk around The Rocks and Circular Quay and by 1 noon the BBR festival was well and truely in progress with crowds everywhere. Another few photos but I didn't see the entire festival just snippets of it as I am saving it for Sunday the last day of the festival.

Instead of heading down to First Fleet Park and getting a French bite to eat there I went to my favourite Patisserie in The Rocks La Renaissance Patisserie & Cafe on Argyle Street to purchase something to eat. There was quite a queue and in the window I could see special tri coloured macaroon (red white and blue) created especially for Bastille Day celebrations. I did not purchase these but opted for a salmon (fume) baguette before changing my mind for a hot mushroom quiche and a cruffin. If you haven't tried a cruffin you must - a cross between a croissant  and muffin with a  light and flaky croissant pastry filled with a silky smooth French vanilla custard lightly dusted with icing sugar - absolute Yumminess! I scoffed it all not even taking a photo of the quiche. Rating 8/10

Onto First Fleet Park which was jam packed with stalls and people. Koi Desserts - must come back and get one! A quick photo but leaving it for later. Special BBR tri coloured desserts were also created to celebrate Bastille Day. Too many choices! Rating 7/10. I am rating the annual BBR Festival lower this year because it is the blind leading the blind no maps are available from the information desk and there is no directory of any stalls present at the festival and people kept asking for a map or directions. Extremely important as there is a lot of construction going around in Circular Quay and The Rocks precinct and the Festival plan is spread over a larger and in different sections and it was difficult to tell where the Christmas in July Markets ended and where the normal Saturday Rocks Markets started except by looming for the wooden huts errected. I also had a lot of trouble booking experiences online. Some were sold out way in advance and I haven't even successfully booked an off piste experience yet. Unsure if a 10 minute experience is actually worth booking as you cant book except online in advance.

See photos attached - hopefully more tomorrow when I return to the event.

I was planning to see the movie Darling from The Scandinavian Film Festival this afternoon but am too tired therefore will see it on another day.
