Monday 23rd January - Wednesday 25th January 2017 - Days 4 5 & 6 In Whistler Skiing Days

Time to catch up on my blogging. I have been very busy catching up and trying to get ahead of my online courses.

Monday was my first ski day on Whistler Mountain. I usually spend 3 - 4 hours hours in the morning and early afternoon on the slopes and the evenings studying. Because I am doing multiple courses there is a lot of reading and assessments to do and I am often up until 1 am local time trying to complete things.

In between I have to cook my dinner and prepare a packed lunch for the slopes the next day. Then there is laundry and catching up with TV and other activities such as ice skating film nights and shopping.

It is absolutely beautiful in Whistler at the moment. It was suppose to snow last weekend which it did but not enough. It is almost bikini skiing - the sun is out and it is not at all cold. Sunglasses a must. Both Monday and Tuesday have been perfect conditions - clear views from the Peak to Peak right down to the village.

The sunny weather continued onto Tuesday my second day of skiing on Whistler Mountain.

By Wednesday the weather conditions started to change which may mean snow may be on its way. Although the peaks of the mountains were clear, the top third or so of the mountains was white out but the lower third of the mountain was also clear.

The snow conditions were still good on all the groomed runs but were a little icy on the lower slopes skiing down to the village.

I didn't ski Blackcomb Mountain this year Whistler Mountain has always been my favourite mountain to ski.

Wednesday was unofficially Australia Day as Canada is 1 day behind and 5 hours ahead but celebrations don't start until Thursday 26th January in Whistler.

Spending time at the Tree Fort on Whistler Mountain today which is a kids on mountain hang out (one of a few) kids there were already wearing life sized Aussie flags around their necks which almost turned out to be a chocking hazard for one kid who got his flag caught in one of his ski bindings.

By Thursday 1 am in the morning I could hear the sounds of drunken Aussies on their way home from partying in the village -  or it could just have been celebrating gay pride week 25 years in Whistler.

Usually Gay ski week is in February the week after MLK long weekend Australia Day celebrations and Robbie Burns Day celebrations - this year all was toned down and all the advertising was about Gay Week in Whistler - the rainbow flags were out on and off the slopes.

I was waiting for the annual glass in the apartment pool and hot tubs rendering them unusable during my stay, the noise disturbances after 10 pm and the annual set off the fire alarm at 2 am in the morning over the MLK long weekend when Whistler is invaded by students from the US  - no there was none of this this year. Only girls in skimpy clothing roaming around the village in the cold and staggering drunkenness with a strong smell of alcohol on students breathe and their inability to stand up.
